That sounds very high. My apartment is a good sized 2 bedroom and we pay 80 (that was also in line with some of the other cleaning services I looked at). Unless, you specified a very detailed cleaning, I'd look elsewhere.

I found a cleaner I like, her name is Irma.

irmacleaningservice@gmail.com

She comes with her daughter to our house twice a month and does a great job. She charges us $80 per regular cleaning and it takes them both about 2 hours.

She is courteous, speaks good english and responds quickly.

Good luck !

Does anyone have a recommendation for a house keeper? If you can you either post/PM me their contact information and rate?

I want someone with a good attention to detail, reasonable english skills and who can set up appointments via email.

I've gotten quotes from companies and they all want to charge around 100 dollars to clean our 930 square foot 2 bedroom/1 bath apartment which I think is too high. We normally keep the apartment fairly clean, and are just looking for someone to do maintence cleaning twice a month.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for your responses ! I'm seeing a few no fee places tomorrow . Brokers showing no fee apartments aren't so bad, and a definite time saver but I'd prefer to meet the owner and see what I'm getting into.

I'll try for a few weeks to see if anything good pops up!

Good to hear. I know a lot of the townhouses use brokers (Del Forno, Armango etc) and have been looking for a few weeks with very little luck.

Since I already live in the area (used a broker to get my current place, but my lease was quickly expiring) and am looking for a bigger place I thought it would be much easier than it is.

broker worth it for rental?

I'm looking to move to a new apartment downtown. New construction isn't my thing so I'm mainly interested in townhouses.

I've had a hard time finding a place that I like that doesn't have a broker fee, my requirements are:

1) 10 minute walk to Path (Exchange, Grove, Newport)
2) 2,300 a month or less
3) Logical layout/good space (1 or 2 bedroom)
4) Lots of sunlight
5) Washer/Dryer , outdoor space a major plus.
6) I'm on a month to month lease so would like the new lease to start 20-30 days from now to avoid paying double rent
7) Pet friendly (2 cats)

Do you guys think that this is doable on my own ? Or should I cave and use a broker or settle for new construction?

I've tried craigslist with only some luck, no fee brokers and walked around to look for "For Rent" signs.

Thank you!

I have felt followed too, though this is usually during slower times where no-one is working the second floor.

It is a little weird to be treated like you are going to steal something given the price point of the merchandise. On another note, it is nice to have someone up there to help you get another size or a second opinion.

Hey Celeste, I'm sorry that this happened. I think that your shop is great and feel comfertable walking through the area at all times.

Maybe, one thing you could do is to add something on your website about attended parking lots nearby and their rates for out of town visitors.

Hey everyone, thanks for the responses.

In case you are curious, I found out that Petco does the FIV/FeLV testing for 35 and the 4 in 1 shot for 19. I'm going to take her this weekend.

They also offer other shots/testing for cats and dogs as well.

Thanks , I will give them a call. Also, please spread the word to see if anyone owns this girl. I will call Liberty Humane and post on craigslist as well. If I don't hear back within a week, I will try to find her a new home.

I found a 8 - 12 week old black and white female kitten today in my yard near van vorst part. She is superfriendly which makes me think someone might be missing her. Here's a headshot:

Resized Image

If she is your cat please let me know at kvg323@gmail.com.

On another note, does anyone know an affordable place near public transportation where I can get her tested for FIV, Felv? She is currently stuck in my bathroom and I can't let her out until I know that she won't get my cat sick. I'd like to find a good home for her, but want to try and avoid paying 100+ dollars in vet fees.

I like Gallerie Hudson on the corner of Jersey and Newark.

One option would be to see if they have any preframed affordable artwork that would fit your diploma and then put your diploma in that frame. This worked for my map which wasn't a standard size.

However, they do custom work as well.

Good luck.

I have read good reviews (but never used) about Pet Airways. It is a pet only airplane which is climate controlled, and pets recieve individual attention. The downside is the cost, when I did a quick search it was around 300 from NY to LA and the airports are out of the way (for NYC it was in Farmingdale. Good luck!

smoke alarms

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle sensitive smoke alarms? I'm in a rental and my landlord installed 6 in my one bedroom apartment.

When I cooked they would always go off (with very little to any smoke) and my landlord would yell at me saying that the fire department will come and give them a big fine. Any advice? Also, if there is a fine would I be responsible even if there was no fire/danger?

I tried disabling some then she definitely wasn't okay with that. (I know I shouldn't have but I love to cook and its frustrating that its so sensitive)

I agree the place can get crowded but it is definitely one of my favorites. On the seating note, did you check the garden? It is very relaxing on nice days.

Re: Five cops wounded in Jersey City shootout

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/17/nyregion/17jersey.html?hp

A chaotic predawn shootout outside a Jersey City apartment building between a shotgun-wielding suspect and the police left five officers wounded ? two critically, including one shot in the face ? and two suspects dead, according to the Jersey City mayor, Jerramiah Healy, who spoke at a news conference in Jersey City.

Five police officers were taken to New Jersey Medical Center with gunshot wounds in what Mayor Healy called a ?terrible gunfight,? and several others sustained injuries relating to the fight.

The officer who had been shot in the face had no signs of life when he was brought in, officials said, but was revived, said doctors at the Jersey City Medical Center. He remained in extremely critical condition.

The other police officer in critical condition was hit in the neck and was in surgery.

Of the other officers injured, one was hit in the vest, another in the arm, and another was grazed in the leg by a bullet and already released.

Gunfire erupted just after 5 a.m. outside an apartment on 24 Reed Street near Bergen Avenue, where the two suspects had already been under investigation by the police. According to another Jersey City law official who requested anonymity, the two people dead are suspected of conducting a robbery in Jersey City with shotguns in June.

One of the suspects had come out of the apartment carrying a shotgun and ammunition and ?ready for war,? said the Jersey City police chief, Tom Comey, and when the police officers approached him, the suspect opened fired.

The suspect retreated into the apartment, and the officers called for emergency backup. About an hour later, with building evacuated, a team of heavily armed emergency service officers went in, and the shootout erupted. The police chief said at least one shotgun blast was fired through a wall or door.

?These individuals were sought by our department,? Chief Comey said. ?This individual came to us fully ready to go to war with us. That weapon was meant to hunt nothing other than men.?

Hi Everyone,

Craigslist has broker and no broker fee sections (however occasionally I've seen broker's asking for fee in the no fee section).

I don't know how set you are on the Shore Club or what time frame you need to move, but in this market I definitely wouldn't pay a fee. Try talking to the management company or subletting from someone on CL instead.

Also, I've been seeing more and more no fee listings on brokers websites (delforno, weichert) so try those as well. Good luck!

Again, depends on what type of business you want to start. I think that the Jersey Ave liquor store is pretty nice and haven't noticed any skechiness around it.

Newark avenue might get better foot traffic, but seems scruffier with all of the 99cent stores.

I think a fair price for a one bedroom downtown is 1200-1600 in one of the rowhouses. From my experience, a lot of those places are listed with brokers. That being said, the economy being what it is there are a lot of no fee listings out there.

If you want one of the luxury developments I think a one bedroom would go for 2000+.

I have definitely noticed a lot more for rent signs downtown. When I was looking for an apartment last summer, I couldn't find anything less than 1500 downtown so I had to use a broker . Still, given the affordable price and location I'm surprised people aren't jumping on it. Good luck renting it out.
