I really don't understand the hate for her on this forum. If you want to see a truly awful (former) city council member, look at Diane Coleman (and she didn't have a second job, so she had the time to do better). I've interacted with both and nothing but positive interaction with Candice.

At the end of the day, it's a part-time gig that does not pay anywhere close enough to make ends meet and people are going to have to go look elsewhere for income.

A lot of the criticism sounds like it's coming from neighborhood association types that can't get their every NIMBY wish magically fulfilled, like putting a stop to all development everywhere and magic unlimited street parking. Not to mention a few (VNA in particular) are actually fairly corrupt organizations with a good amount of self-dealing by their boards with their own agendas and are probably seeking to put out an early narrative in hopes of electing someone with views closer to theirs.

I agree. There are far better candidates more qualified and that will do a much better job for this community. We need someone with an open mind and heart. Her opinions are way too strong and close minded for our community. She's way too mouthy and not the kind of person I'd want representing JC. She doesn't seem confident or stable enough in my opinion....social media reveals a lot about a person just saying people need to do their research!

She shouldn?t Run bc there are more qualified people that just care more. It?s clear she NEVER had a passion for it, time for it, or getting paid to care. What I hate more than anything though is how one person can shape her opinion as if that one person speaks for the community. To be fair, SF acts the same way as well. make one noise somewhere and they get into reaction mode. James Solomon or Michael Billy are SOLID guys who I think will shape the city for the better. I saw Candice in action 2 weeks ago at the VNA and she just wasn?t coherent and felt intimidated. There was a Grillo dude there too who told me he was running and somehow has at least 50 signs up already.

It also doesn't help when she proposes legislation that's intended to benefit people in her ward and certain people feel the need to astroturf and call it racist.

Every time I've emailed her 6-7 times she responds within 1-3 days. I don't always agree with her but she does respond.
I would encourage everybody to run for office.

I noticed her being very active when she took office but lately, all emails get responded every 2 - 3 weeks (and some none). If you talk to the DCNA, they will share the same sentiment.
It's pathetic that the council job in JC is not a full time position and doesnt get paid as such. Even Newark fixed that system.
