State is walking away from potential development at Liberty State Park, DEP commissioner says By The white flag has been raised and the battle for Liberty State Park's future appears to be over. The head of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection said today that he is no longer looking into ways to bring development to the park, adding that state officials never had concrete plans for the park privatization in the first place. "The bottom line is we made the decision that we're going to do nothing in the park," DEP Commissioner Bob Martin said in response to a question posed by state Sen. Sandra Cunningham during a Senate Budget and Appropriations hearing. "We're not going to spend any time, any more money." You should go more often. On weekends when the weather is nice, there are far more people than that in the park. Check the playground and the picnic areas. Check the kite-flying fields and the 9/11 memorial. You'll count more than 200 in no time.

The article says 200 people showed up for the demonstrations. I think that is the most people I have ever seen in the park outside of major holidays, such as the 4th of July. Even on weekends, you would be hard pressed a group of 200 people, outside of tourists making their way to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

What Christie will be getting in the mail from Liberty State Park advocates By JERSEY CITY -- Frigid temperatures and a light snow didn't stop more than 200 people from gathering at Liberty State Park to direct a message at Gov. Chris Christie: keep the park free and green. Sign-toting protesters met at the park's Flag Plaza for a group picture, which they plan to send directly to Christie to show how important open space is to residents in an urban area. In November, the state Department of Environmental Protection released a list of possible development projects, which include a hotel, amusement park, and amphitheater being built in "underutilized or neglected" areas of the park. Reports have indicated the park operates on a $3.5 million budget but generates $1.5 million in revenue. Sam Pesin, the president of the Friends of Liberty State Park advocacy group, said that parks are "not supposed to make money." Liberty State Park activist Pesin rips Christie: ‘Keep your hands off this park!’Close to 100 protesters gathered for a photo shoot at Liberty State Park to denounce privatization plans for the park, with Sam Pesin leading the charge by shouting “Governor Christie: keep your hands off this park!” Greg Remaud, the NY/NJ baykeeper, believes that these protests would help push for public hearings so the Christie Administration can really hear the concerns of the community. “What we are really waiting is public hearings, every time in Liberty State Park if there’s a big change, there’s always a public hearing, where people can come out and people can say ‘oh I like a hotel or I don’t like a hotel’,” he told Hudson County View. As soon as Christie found out about Kelly lying, he fired her. He couldn't summarily dismiss anyone on the PA payroll, although he could (and did) encourage them to resign.
And I won't rehash the whole traffic jam in this thread, but there still, millions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of emails and texts, not a thing that comes within a mile of Christie lying or misleading the public. Now compare that to 30,000 deleted government owned emails and a bald faced lie to the families of the dead in Benghazi and the American people-which has been proved in a couple emails that missed getting redacted-to protect Obama just before an election. See you Sunday at the bike ride?

A small Smorgasburg style food fair would be nice, with a smaller indoor version in the winter.

You know that this isn?t remotely close to being true (Timeline). Let?s see? Wildstein resigned (that?s not a firing) in December, 2013 Baroni resigned (that?s not a firing) Kelly is fired over a month after Wildstein resigns (That?s more instant than instant coffee!) Bill Stepien was never fired. Samson was never fired. Where are the ?instant firings??! Since the investigation began in October, 2013, yes, the investigation lead to the uncovering of facts which then lead to numerous departures. Quote:
Really? Samson was fired? I must have missed when that occurred! Quote:
Nothing to do with it except for the fact that if there was no investigation into the event, there would not have been firings, resignings and the truth about what actually occurred come out... Quote:
Did he want something on Christie? Sure. But nobody on the planet is stupid enough to think he was so completely oblivious to the matter. The buck stops with him. Why can?t he take responsibility for his position and putting a culture and climate in place that would make this an acceptable action (assuming that he knew nothing)? The party of personal responsibility my ass? Quote:
On this, I agree. I?m hopeful that this was put in place for mid-sized development. Converting some old buildings into some sort of food service location would be nice. Heck, even some sort of mall style dining area with some quick food might be a solid option.

First, Christie fired everyone in Trenton instantly when he found out. As the NYNJPA staffers were found to have involvement they were juiced too. Whizzy and Whineys investigation had nothing to do with it. And we heard months ago from the Feds that this is going nowhere, at least as far as Governor Christie is involved.
At least Whiney has had to, very grudgingly, admit she's got nothing on Christie. But it'll be curious to see what could be on board for LSP. There really isn't a 'family', mid priced place to eat. It's either high end or the two hot dog carts, one near the playground and the other by the Parks Building. They could put it inside the RR Terminal Building without disturbing open space, for example.

I thought the results were withheld due to a request by those involved in the Federal probe. However, it's not wasted millions. Corruption was found and the obvious perpetrators were forced out and could possibly face bigger problems. Sure, if it was actually a traffic study and they continued to press it would be a waste. However, Samson has likely cost the residents of NJ billions. I'm fine with spending millions to get him locked up.

I'm fine with them releasing the draft, but the state hasn't developed any plans to implement anything at this point. The firm hired would just be offering suggestions as to what would be appropriate. I don't think a 500 foot tall Ferris wheel or something similar is going to be there.
And Whiney, when are we getting the results of your Christie witch hunt that has cost millions? Or are you holding the results (which will clear him) until after the first couple of primaries for political reasons?

Senators want 'secret' DEP report, plan hearing on Liberty State Park's futureBy A pair of high-ranking Democrats in the state Senate are calling on the Department of Environmental Protection to release its plans for potential development in Liberty State Park. Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, D-Teaneck, and Environment Chairman Bob Smith, D-Piscataway, announced the senate Environment and Energy Committee will hold a hearing on the controversial issue in the coming weeks. Weinberg and Smith are pushing the DEP to release a report detailing possible revenue-generating ventures for the state park on the Jersey City waterfront, and have also requested DEP Commission Bob Martin to attend. Perhaps the Jersey Journal should mention the votes. The seven sponsors, led by Prieto of Hudson County, were all Democrats.
The State Senators voted-all 21 yes votes were by Democrats, all 12 no votes were by Republicans. The State Representatives voted 42 in favor, 25 against. All but one yes votes were by Democrats, and all but one no votes were by Republicans. Carry on.

Liberty State Park bill signed by Christie has park enthusiasts concernedBy JERSEY CITY — Gov. Chris Christie has Liberty State Park advocates concerned after he signed into law yesterday a bill that keeps the park's jurisdiction under the newly formed Meadowland's Regional Commission. Friends of the park fear this will lead the way for private development at the country's most visited state park. "It is outrageous that Gov. Christie signed a bill that was to supposed to protect Liberty State Park but instead opens it up to private development," said Jeff Tittel, director of the New Jersey Sierra Club, in a statement. "In a shameful legislative maneuver, a bill that was to fix the problems in an earlier bill is turned upside down and actually makes things worse." The original bill that Tittel was referring to was proposed by State Sen. Stephen Sweeney, and called for the removal of Liberty State Park from the Commission's authority.
