Mayor accused of shoving cop won't face criminal charges, officials say

KEARNY -- Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop is accused of shoving a cop at Kearny High School Tuesday night during the Hudson County Democratic Organization election, but police say he won't be charged.

Kearny Mayor Al Santos said the incident occurred outside a voting booth in a room attached to the high school's cafeteria but Fulop has denied making contact with a police officer and called Santos' allegations "baseless" and "clearly just politics.”

If it were the private sector you have a point. Not in the public sector!

Wouldn't the.cushy union contracts be enough for you to change your vote. Nj.com just ran an article about longshoreman making 400k plus at port of Newark. Many of them getting paid for being on the clock 24/7

No. If you can make more than $400,000 a year, more power to you. The politicians can steal a lot more for less work.

What proof is there that this actually happened other than a "he said, she said"?

Al Santos is a DeGise ally and Fulop was behind Brian Stack, so there's a potential political motive to the accusation.

How do we even know this really happened and why are we taking the Kearny mayor's word for it? Why have no other witnesses been interviewed for this story? Additionally it seems there was already tension brewing between the two even before this vote took place: https://hudsoncountyview.com/jersey-ci ... king-for-hcdo-chair-vote/

Until there's proof, this is just another nonsense conspiracy theory to keep the idiot Yvonne NIMBYs entertained for a few days.

(Where is the NJ.com/JJ reporting on this?)

Apologize to the Kearny cop you shoved, Santos says to JC Mayor Fulop

13 JUNE 2018 BY KEVIN CANESSA | JOURNALIST & WEBMASTER

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop owes the rookie Kearny police officer he shoved last night an apology, at the very least, Kearny Mayor Alberto G. Santos told The Observer earlier today.

This all stems from an incident Santos says occurred Tuesday night, June 12, at Kearny High School, at a contentious meeting of the Democratic County Committee to pick the party?s chairperson for the next term.

Santos says Fulop, an ally of Union City Mayor Brian Stack who was running for the top seat ? Stack lost to County Executive Tom DeGise?s daughter, Amy DeGise ? was trying to make his way into a room that had a voting machine in it for committee members to vote for either DeGise or Stack.

Thing is, only poll workers and those voting are allowed in that room, according to the bylaws of the Hudson County Democratic Organization.

When the Kearny police officer assigned to a door to that room wouldn?t let the Jersey City CEO in, that?s when Fulop reportedly shoved the cop to try to gain access.

Santos is *a* clerk for the freeholders, not the county clerk. That's the job Yvonne was referring to.

Several years ago, I complained about the helicopters flying over JC at the freeholders meeting from Kearny, freeholder Bill O'Dea said, "Yvonne, then complain to County Clerk, Al Santos, who is also the mayor of Kearny." He also said the freeholders passed a resolution against the helicopters in Kearny. So the mayor of Kearny had to catalogue the complaint of his town. When you want to place your name on the agenda for public speaking at the freeholders meeting to speak to Al Santos, while doing that ask him about this incidence. Has Santos title change, I do not know but I do know he still works at the freeholder's meeting.

The Hudson County Clerk is Junior M, Fulop's Ward E councilman predecessor.

The reporting is by DAVID WILDSTEIN, really?!?

(but not the bridgegate one, i had to check)

The mayor of Kearny is also the Hudson County clerk for the freeholders. If you want proof, go to the freeholders meeting and ask him.

Yeah, well at least you can find coverage about that story.

A Democrat story being squashed is nothing new. Especially in Hudson county.

Kearny Mayor says Fulop shoved cop
Police Chief will investigate incident; no word on criminal charges

By David Wildstein

12 Jun 2018
11:12 pm

Kearny mayor Alberto Santos says that Jersey City mayor Steve Fulop shoved one of his police officers tonight while attending the Hudson County Democratic county chairman election.

?He shoved one our police officers,? Santos told the New Jersey Globe. ?One of our first-year police officers who was on the job was pushed by Mayor Fulop.?

Santos declined to say if charges would be filed against Fulop.

?I will speak with the chief of police tomorrow and got more specifics on the incident.?

Fulop did not immediately respond to a 11:02 PM request for comment via social media. If he does respond, his comment will be added to this story.

Earlier this evening, Fulop suffered an embarrassing defeat when political rival Amy DeGise, a Jersey City Board of Education member, won an estimated 135 of about 300 county committee votes in Jersey City that the mayor was supposed to control.
