You didn't get ripped off by Grove Pointe, you got ripped off by whoever was handing out brains the day you were born. And obviously your parents, since they raised a dummy.

It isn't Grove Pointe's fault that you've apparently never used a garage in your life. The rules are always the same.

You can look at this as a cheap lesson in how garages operate. Now you'll be prepared the next time you have to use a garage.

I'm confused. Why did you pay immediately after arriving? That's not how most garages work.

You get your ticket which is time stamped. When you leave you put your ticket into the machine, and it tells you how much to pay depending on how long you've been there.

Is that not how Grove Pointe garage works?

What can I say, I'm a novice garage user. The charge for the evening was a fixed $6. It shouldn't have mattered when I paid and when I left, as long as it was all on the same evening that I entered. Now that I know, I won't make that mistake again, however, that doesn't change the fact that I was charged double.

That's his point. They're stamped when you leave and you have a certain amount of time to get out of the garage. If you paid when you entered, who's to say how long you were actually parked there? You could pay when you enter, leave, come back, then go to the exit again. Or how do you know how much to pay?

It isn't a ripoff, you just don't know how garages work. Every parking garage works this way. It probably said on your ticket to pay when you leave.

You were not ripped off, you just don't know how to use a garage. Every single garage on the planet with a pay station requires that you leave within a few minutes (usually 10-15ish) of paying. What was stopping you from using your "paid ticket" to exit three weeks later?

The signs indicate to pay at the pay station, they don't say pay within 15 minutes of leaving.

If the ticket records the time of entry and the amount paid, I would need to leave within the time period paid for. How would I use it three weeks later?

The sign at the entrance said $6 parking for the rest of the evening, when entering after 6PM.

I parked my car at 6:30PM and immediately put my ticket into the pay station and paid $6 cash. I didn't take a receipt, thinking the paid ticket was my receipt.

When I tried to exit at 8:30PM with the paid ticket, the gate machine wouldn't let me out unless I paid another $6.

There was no attendant at the booth. I walked around to the lobby and found her having lunch there. When I finally got her to come back to the garage she said I had to pay again.

I wound up having to pay another $6 to get out.

I called the location manager this morning and he gave me some BS about how you have to pay when you're leaving, not when you first come in, otherwise the machine charges you again.

I called corporate customer service and they said they can't help me.

Yes, it's only $6 overcharge, but it's the principle.
