The women that used to drive the car on my block knew my neighbor. She would sit outside the brownstone every single day and hit the horn and wait a good minute or two for my neighbor to come out and move the car.

So I guess the key is to just know the person giving out the tickets then your set.

I know there are new drivers out there driving the sweeper & they are horrible. Maybe that's why it is running behind schedule.

Parking Authority has nothing to do with sweeper schedules, for that you have to call the incinerator authority. Sweepers just ride ahead to warn you of the sweeper & to issue tickets.

Technically no. If the sign says no parking between 10 & 12 it means just that regardless of what time the sweeper passes. I knew a guy who got such a ticket on Bowers. He took the picture, dated & timed, clearly showing that the sweeper was there before the ticket was issued. Though the judge dismissed it, he let it be known that it was a courtesy that tickets were not issued after the sweeper had passed.

What's there really to complain about? The signs clearly say no parking for the entire 2 hour period.

If the sweeper is not consistent every day due to road construction, I don't think there is a valid complaint as long as the sweeping occurs at some point during the 2 hours.

came here to say this. I don't see what people are complaining about. If I was the guy in the little 3-wheeler I would circle back a ticket everyone that moves their car back to the no parking side after the sweeper comes.

Why? The street has been cleaned which is the entire purpose of the parking regulations. NYC should adopt the Jersey City method and really stop wasting people's time waiting hours after the street has been cleaned. I guess in your view it's okay to raise revenue from people simply because they own cars?

For what it's worth, I enjoyed your description of the street cleaning as "the dog and pony show to moisten the street."

Agreed. They used to come on my street between 8:30 and 8:45. Everyone just double parked on the other side until they came through then moved back. Technically it's true they can come and ticket any time within the window but when you get used to a schedule it can be annoying even though you really have no right to be annoyed. Just another perk(?) of city living. I was late to work many times due to my own laziness of not moving my car until the expected time of them coming through and them being "late". I finally ditched my car though and am so relieved to not have to play that game anymore. If I tried to move my car the evening before there would be no parking. If I tried to move it the morning of, still no parking. Just no winning. Apparently everyone within a 5 block radius had a car and no one drove it to work.....just like me.

Sounds like complaining to me. Seriously, it is quite incredible. In theory, the sweepers could come by at ANY TIME within the posted times and it would be perfectly legit for them to do that and to ticket those who have not moved their cars.

The price you pay for free parking. What is your time worth, btw?

I will say the one day I didn't have time to move my car was the day they never showed up at all, so I was pretty happy to come home and not find a ticket on my car :)

I live in Hamilton Park. The sweeper and parking authority scooter usually hit my neighborhood between 8:45 and 9:10am. It's been really consistent for years.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a drastic change. One morning they didn't show up at all. Another morning the sweeper showed up a little before 10am without the parking authority scooter.

Anyone else notice this? Does it have anything to do with all the PSE&G construction or perhaps the dissolution of the parking authority?
