Take a look at the last picture in the bedroom - note the foot of the bed in the bowl - the leaking must be insane.

The bedroom ceiling has been replaced but it looks like it's about to fall down again.

There are a couple of these in the Heights and I am always so curious as to what they look like on the inside (see also: the red brick castle-y looking house with the turret at Griffith and Palisade).

I saw this listing on Zillow a few weeks ago and started laughing out loud. On one hand, it is very hoarder-y. On the other hand, it's like walking into a time capsule. I'm in awe that they just rolled with the olde-timeyness of it.

Van Vorst is the oldest house in the Heights. I saw other listings for this house (32 Griffith) that put its age in the late 1800's. Realtors, like used car salesmen, are notorious for exaggerating.
You peaked my curiosity and I looked it up. I can't believe that the building that houses Sanai's is the oldest building in Hudson County.

Amazing. And those hideous glass & steel monstrosities have all kinds of problems before they are 5 years old.

Did you read the threads about the opposition to the 42 story tower up Journal Square? That project is a few feet away from the "oldest building in Hudson County".

We gut renovated an 1870 farmhouse in the Heights - it was love and hell all wrapped into one. Good luck with the foundation and beams of that house -they've got to be in dangerous shape.

And a bad roof, even for a few months, can wreak absolute havoc on every part of the home.

Our biggest surprise (after removing tons of brown paneling and drop ceilings which should be outlawed in the free world) was a dining room made completely of tin - walls and ceiling. We were able to save the ceilings but not the walls. The floors were gorgeous, after we stripped off the 1970 green shag and the glue-on linoleum beneath.

I bet there are a lot of surprises (good and bad) behind those walls.

And cats, judging by the cat food stack in one of the photos. I guess that's in keeping with the hoarder theme.

" The roof needs immediate replacement."

I bet every wall has mold and mildew.
Every surface that can be seen looks like it has been patched and repaired, and not in a good way.

oh god I thought it said $46,000 a year and was horrified when I read it.

Whoever lives there has a real love for toaster ovens too. They've got 4 of them.

If I remember correctly, the place was deemed unfit for human habitation and the renters were forced out, but that doesn't mean the property owner would be allowed to tear it down.

It looks like a fire waiting to happen. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if a movement pops up to landmark the place (if it isn't already one), thereby making any teardown impossible - like that shitty eyesore on the northeast corner of Barrow & Wayne.

That's a scary looking place. It looks like a house you would see in an episode of Hoarders. It looks like an accident waiting to happen. It probably needs to be torn down. I wonder if any sucker will pony up anything over 100K for the place.

'Very unusual' Jersey City house for sale
By The Jersey Journal
on May 06, 2015 at 3:12 PM

There's a little piece of history for sale in the Jersey City Heights.

Located on Griffith Street near Riverview Park, the two-family house dates back to the 1700s. Real-estate agent Ellason Curdgele said the home's current owner has called it "the first house in the Heights."

JJ piece with pictures?
