I had a chicken parm with added onions the other day, and it was decidedly average at best. Not a lot of sauce, huge mess of largely cut white onions.
I'll give em another shot, due to the proximity, but unimpressive so far.

Stopped in for the first time today and I think this is by far the best New York Style slice I've had in Jersey City (really like Elio's and 2 boots but I put them in a different category). The pizza had a really nice thin crust, with a good balance of sauce and cheese and if they can hammer out the details I think this could be a great spot.
I went in at 12:15 and the pizza looked like it had been sitting there for a while, so that's an issue. Also it took about 3+ dudes to figure out my change but, whatever. I really thought the pizza was very good. Definitely better than most of the crap that passes for slices around Grove St. While I agree that the amount of pizza joints is ridiculous I also believe that they should continue to open more spots until somebody makes an edible slice of Pizza. It's like some type of weird Darwinian experiment where random pizza places keep opening and we see how long until one produces an acceptable slice. Maybe this place is it.

On the plus side, I tried their mushroom burger and it was pretty good. Not bad for an $8 dollar item but their delivery fee kills me. Calamari and grilled salmon are just so-so. Wouldn't mind ordering again if I get another coupon.

I got a coupon from delivery.com so I decided to give Alex's a try. I ordered a pizza with eggplant and a tossed salad.
They delivered within 35 minutes. The pizza was on par with other "grab-and-go-slice" places. Not bad at all. I just wish I had a choice to get a smaller pizza (I was only offered large or extra large). Salad was good. It came with chunks of mozzarella. Overall I think it's your average pizza place. That said, I'll probably order from Carmine's since it's 2 blocks away from my apt and it's more convenient to pick it up.

Mama mia, another one... Yes, the margins on pizza and pasta are astronomical; restaurants attempt a 25-33% food cost. A pizzeria can, with ultimate efficiency, reach closer to 16%.

I think the answer to "why?" is margin. Pizza seems to be one of those items that can give you a 300% margin.

Well, to where I live, they at least deliver online (delivery.com) and they offer grilled meats on their menu. Anyone tried them yet? Anything on the menu that stands out?

All these places competing for your attention only the places making the best product will survive. The market place will decide who will survive and who will die. Hoboken seems to have a pizza place on every corner with at least 1 Italian restaurant on every block. Most of these places have survived. I think there is a much bigger market for fast food (pizza) than most here realize.

So to recap, within a few blocks of the Grove Path we have:
Bistro Pizza (or whatever it's actually called) Two Boots Porta Razza Helen's Stella's Buon Appetito Domino's Pino's Roman Nose Alex's Include a few blocks further afield but still a 5 minute walk: Rustique Michael's Abbondanza 14 pizza places within minutes walking distance from Grove. Why the hell would anyone think it's wise to open another one? I hate to crap on any small business owner but this is just absurd. I'd take any kind of restaurant, literally ANY kind, over yet another pizza place. I just don't get it.

I'm sorry if people think that the residents of JC are being harsh or mean or overly critical regarding However, within a 2 block radius of the PATH, there are at least (that I have counted) 8 restaurants that serve the EXACT same menu. John's Kitchen Cafe was a welcome change as it serves good hearty food for a decent price and is not a farm to table scenario. I agree with the argument that we would rather see store fronts occupied rather than vacant but could definitely use some diversity in the food options we get in the DTJC area. And I am happy that none of these places are chain restaurants. I would much rather support a small business than give any business to any big named stores/chains. .

All of the newer DTJC pizza options are great, but sometimes I'm just craving a simple, decent slice that isn't named after a zydeco singer. If Alex's can provide that, as Helen's cannot, then they'll get my business.

clearly some people don't have time for non-artisanal, non-farm to table pizza. I say keep em coming because sooner or later someplace has to get the on the go, basic slice right.

It's great that new restaurants/shops are opening rather than leaving spaces vacant, but the list of pizza joint/italian restaurant spots in that area are ridiculous, you couldn't even list them all in one breath. If they can bring something interesting to the table that others don't, that would be fantastic ? rather than the sparkly entrees and exhaust emitting coffee they show on the website.
They do have a Sweet 16 Buffet...

Damn, a lot of hate for a place that offers a Buon Appetito'esque option across the street from where Buon Appetito used to be. I'll give it a shot at least, will try out their chicken parms. I think it's good to have quick options like this close to the PATH.

This place looks horrible. Sorry to be so negative, but why would anyone even bother opening a place like this.

seriously. that website is a joke too. trying to make themselves look fancy, then you click on the menu and see buffalo wings and burgers.
there's absolutely no need to go to this place with la rustique, razza, roman nose, and abbondanza.
