Ha, I was wondering when JClist would catch on to this. I've noticed the sign several times and wondered why on earth a place called the coffee shop would have 22 TVs and ribs. The inside of the owner's mind must be an interesting place...

I heard the coffee shop is owned by the Bistro next door. Yes,
that restaurant at the Grove St station with the neon digital sign
by the restaurant sign.

Agreed. Nothing takes away from the mood and ambiance of a dimly lit bar like the sterile white glow of a bunch of big-screen TVs.

God, that town is so douchie.

Todd's words ring true. Unless you are specifically a sports bar, there really is no need for more than one modest sized TV. If you want to watch TV, stay home.

+1 on Raymond's! I try to stop there whenever I'm in Montclair.

Exactly. Somebody stands to make a lot of money if they open one anywhere near Grove Street. The food doesn't even have to be that good, it just has to be greasy and open late (4am), if not 24-hr.

We must be the only quasi-gritty neighborhood in America with zero greasy spoon diners, but TWO sleek, fancy dancy "diners".

I do like Brownstone, though.

The proliferation of TVs in establishments doesn't make much sense to me. Personally, if the Bistro is sold, I would like to see a Raymond's in Montclair replicated there, or what Cafeteria in NYC used to be like back in the day.

Raymond's looks great! I'd love to have something there like the Mayrose, which I miss. It was great for a late night bite or just to grab a cup of coffee and something sweet and hang out for a bit.

there's a sign in the window with the business name and details - open til 2am, 22 tvs, coffee, pastries, tacos, ribs.. a long list, i'll take a photo next time i walk by. it's such a prime location but judging by the details it seems like it will end up being a mess like the bistro :-/

Really hoping that Duane Reade gets bought out by this Douche McGurk and opens up a nail salon that sells BBQ, tiny hats, whistles and goldfish. It will be called Nail Salon.

That would be odd. Where does it say that they're having ribs, wings, and tacos at the Coffee Shop??

Not to hijack this interesting thread, but the Coffee Shop in union square is pretentious, overpriced, terrible service and mediocre food. Ok, back to the other Coffee Shop, which hopefully goes down a different path, 22 TV's and all.

I thought it was going to be a Cuban Restaurant affiliated with The Bistro. The Coffee Shop - am I the only one havig problems with the definite article?

The proprietor is a complete jerk and will never see a dime of my business. His ranting over the "Groove on Grove" events, the FREE music concerts and the Farmer's Markets (all of which were a huge success and great venues) was ridiculous. You got a lease, pal, and you don't own the Plaza so shut the F up!

The 22 TVs thing is definitely a bit odd, but between the name and the idea itself, it seems to be copping the Union Square joint.

Killer of dreams, tommyc_37, killer of dreams! :)

I saw the first post and called my husband, excitedly telling him that we may get The Coffee Shop from Union Sq near Grove Path.

Good... now the Grove Square owner can yell at passersby walking with their D&D coffee cups, suggesting they are impeding on his coffee/breakfast business...

No, this isn't connected to Coffee Shop in US (one of my favorite places in the city). I noticed the 22 TVs thing too - why does any place need 22 TVs??

Unfortunately I don't think this is affiliated with the Union Square business called The Coffee Shop.

I believe this one at Grove Square (where the Dunkin Donuts used to be) is all a part of the "mega complex" that the owner of Grove Bistro is trying to create. Jack of all trades, master of none.

I also saw the sign yesterday as I walked around (slid on the ice) downtown. They are advertising that they will have 22 TVs. But I peeked into the space and it is a tiny, cozy room - where are they going to squeeze in 22 TVs? Holy moly.

I love watching sports, but it's discouraging that every bar in Jersey City feels they have to have a million huge TVs. Why not have a space that caters to good drinks and good conversation?

Looks like a new cafe/bar will be coming to the Grove PATH area. Recently spotted signage in a storefront near the bistro/wine bar/pizzeria on Grove/Morgan for "The Coffee Shop." Sign says it will be open from 7 AM - 2 AM serving coffee, breakfast in the AM, with more food and craft beers as the day moves along. Seems to be a new outpost for this location in the city, which also boasts its long hours:

http://thecoffeeshopnyc.com/

Seems pretty cool/popular and the reviews aren't half bad on Yelp. Anyone been to the Union Sq location or know anything about the potential JC opening? Hopefully it becomes another cool addition to the grove/newark area!
