Kraveie is great!!! Also a straight up Korean restaurant would be a great addition to DTJC.

so wanted to love Bon Chon, but it's just too much buck for the bang. do adore Kraverie, but when I crave Korean, it's not a Korean crepe I'm thinking about.

Right, because only Korean people eat Korean food. I can tell you this white guy would love a place to get some sundubu.
Unrelated, but I hope anyone who went to the old West Side spot tried the new Honduran place that took over. Or do you have to be Honduran to eat there?

There are dozens of restaurants in those towns. None in Jersey City. Yes, the Korean immigrant population is much higher there, but Jersey City has a fair number of Koreans as well, especially downtown. This is a dumb objection.

Wait... what about Bon Chon and Kraverie? All those bergen towns have korean fried chicken places too. Theres a reason for that.

I went looking for the place on the West Side the moment I moved back here this summer. It is a huge loss. Just this morning I was debating the pros and cons of driving to Edison or Pal Pk vs going in to the city to K Town. I have constant Korean cravings, and don't even get me started on dim sum--I was supposed to meet people yesterday at Jing Fong but I wound up having to cancel. I think a Korean place would be very successful here, especially if it had late hours like so many of them in the city do.

I'd absolutely love a "normal", not overly highbrow, semi-authentic Korean restaurant in JC. Bibimbap, kimchi jjigae, japchae, etc at prices that are close to what you would get at a decent place in K-Town would be amazing. It's definitely one of the few types of cuisine that Downtown JC is missing.

Yeah hence the countless restaurants up there. Quote: A tiny section of Jersey city with a few Korean folk does not really count. The billboards in those towns are in Korean. Your hyperbole is pretty irritating and baseless. Newport is actually a significant part of Downtown Jersey City, especially population wise. Also, Jersey City has the fifth largest Korean population in NJ. According to the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development, there are ~2300 Koreans in Jersey City... I think that as a base is enough to support 1 traditional restaurant.

There are lots of those in Newport. But I definitely would go to the Korean Restaurant all the time if it was good. That place on the West Side was pretty bad... but I still went there probably once a month.

To any prospective Korean Restaurant owners: If you want to open a shop in JC, do not make your restaurant too clean, fancy or well made. The residents of JC will mark you as "not authentic" or "higher end garbage" or some other hipster nonsense.
Also, be sure to hire the rudest wait staff possible. Then, AND ONLY THEN, will you succeed in JC.

Really? Have you walked around Leonia, Pal Park, or Fort Lee? Walk around those towns then walk around Jersey City. That is why there are so many Korean restaurants there. Its that simple.

I think a non-fusion Korean spot would do very well, but don't close yourself off to what we have - Kraverie is fantastic (and not all fusion!)

YES! I'd eat there all the time. I used to go to a place on West Side Ave but they closed. Hate trekking all the way to K-Town or Fairview, but I still do that at least once a month.

Any quality restaurant that's not a Mexican, Indian, pizza joint, or asian fusion should do exceedingly well.

Another vote for Korean food in downtown! I was just thinking today how great it would be if I didn't have to trek to ktown for food.

Honestly, I think that it's about the only restaurant that's missing. I would be there every week for jap chae, panjeon and kalbi.

I think it could definitely work. So many great places in Palisades Park. You'd think someone would want to open one here.

Is there any demand in downtown JC for a Korean restaurant? No fusion, no nonsense, just straight up and down real Korean food: kalbi, kimchi stews, seafood pancakes.
