Thank you all for the confirmation on Bob's.

I stopped by to confirm hours and location and will be going back tomorrow with three pairs. As others have commented, super friendly guy. Prices are super reasonable, as well. Best part yet, he tells me that if you go early enough, he can take care of a shoe shine right on the spot without you having to go back to collect your stuff. Thumbs up!

Bobs on Jersey again! His hours are 8 to 8 I think. I got the heels in a pair of wedges built back up and it was $13 or so. Hes a nice guy and does a really fantastic job.

Does anyone have a more recent recommendation for a shoe cobbler in the DTJC area? I have a few pairs of black leather shoes that need to be shined and the soles repainted along the sides. I know two good places in Manhattan, with really good prices, but if I can avoid the side trip and keep it local I would like to do so.

Does anyone have a phone number for Bob's or know their hours off-hand? I'd like to stop in on my way to work, but then it would need to open by 7:30-8.
Thanks!

I've had a pair of AE heels replaced by them but not full resole. Once you have a resole/recraft done outside of AE, they wont touch them.
Get the full AE recraft. They come back looking better than new. I've had two pair done. It's 125 for standard and they send you a $35 gift card toward your next purchase.

Totally agree with the A&E recraft endorcement. My 9.5 B's wear no other - I wish they made sneakers. Except for the topsiders, I believe everything is made in USA. Alden and Redwing, too.

In case you're around lower Manhattan (you know off the PATH and getting ready to hop on the subway to go to work), there's an excellent place just east of B-way on John. Very good, fast, and reasonable.

i second the AE recrafting.

Giovanni does a great job, but the recrafting offered by AE is worth the 150 ... i have a pair of AE that are over 20 years old - and they have been recrafted twice ...

Giovanni D'Italia Shoe Repair
121 River Dr
Jersey City
(201) 626-2026

They also have a shop in Hoboken. Excellent bar none.

++++++++ for Giovanni

I have been going to their shop in Hoboken at least 10 years. I couldn't believe the beautiful job he did on an expensive pair of riding boots. IMO, his prices are good for the work you get. He & the people he has working for him are old style & the quality of work proves it.

I was going to suggest Bob on Jersey right off of Newark too. He is on the northwest side .

Bob's on Jersey Ave is the best around. He has repaired and resoled innumerable boots and shoes for me, as well as cleaning a designer leather handbag that had been stained with coffee.

His shop recently moved from between Newark and Columbus over to Jersey & First, right across from Bouquets and Baskets.

He also works fast and for extremely reasonable prices.

I've brought plenty of work to Giovanni D'italia Footwear.I think the dry cleaners on 7th & Erie sends work to them and I think they have a second location at Exchange Place. I always go to their main location in Hoboken on Willow & Seventh. I have them fix bicycle related items shoes included. They've done magic to items that were ready for the grave. Bringing them back to life in improvising ways making it even better. I have been very pleased with their work.

I've taken my shoes to that place on Newark and they did an o.k. job but it is SO dirty and filled with cigarette smoke that I've been looking for a better place. I'm not afraid of a little grit or mom-and-pop idiosyncrasies but I mean that shop is seriously filthy.

Giovanni D'Italia is by far the best for work on good shoes; something like a full resole on goodyear welted shoes. If you're getting a $50 pair of kenneth coles reglued, go to the other guys.

The shop in Newport (mentioned below: Giovanni) is definitely very good, but it is very expensive. I have taken many things there, partly out of habit, partly because the guy is so friendly, but you will pay what I consider to be above average prices.

Yeah I took my shoes there too and was happy. Be aware that he only takes cash though.

The guy on Grove, kitty-corner from the Dunkin Donuts, has never given me anything short of excellent service in the 4+ years I've been going there. And he's reasonably priced, too. (Just be sure to hang onto your ticket! finding your shoes without it takes ages, I learned.)

Giovanni D'Italia at Newport. Just dropped two pairs of boots there and they came back looking great.

Luz's Shoe Repair is super close to the 23rd St Path, b/w 5th and 6th Aves. They're affordable and they do a great job. I took my boots there after having completely worn through the soles, and they returned them to me looking brand spankin' new!

My leather boots are suffering from too much slop and salt! (Thank you Jersey City for your excellent plowing and clearing of street corners.) Any recommendations for a good place to take my boots for a cleaning/shine/water-proofing?

Oddly, the best shines I've gotten in the past have been at the airport! But I hate to buy a plane ticket just to get past security to get my boots shined.

I live downtown, if that's helpful?

Thanks!

The guy on Grove just north of Newark is really good too, and has rescued two pairs of my heels that I thought were beyond repair.
