User, what are the odds that students' parents have students' cell numbers? Teachers doing this? Really? Nah, not at Prep. My children chose McNair over Prep for a number of reasons but this? No.

Brewster, I was wondering what decision your family made. Now I know.

Before we blame the students this could be coming from a parent or staff member.

What makes this ironic if not appalling is that Prep sells themselves on the basis of making boys into "upstanding and moral young men". I was already glad we declined their offer.

Moronic kids, if not "turned", become moronic adults. We have enough of them already. This isn't a hanging offense, but it's not something to be ignored. Good schools don't practice 'zero tolerance'; they practice 100% response.

I do hope they get to the bottom of this.....and it should not be too hard to trace....if they actually talk to someone who knows about cell phones and computers.

As someone who has for years been running into St. Prep kids on my commute/travel.......i would say many are pretty much regular kids.

But when it came to prep kids who played sports(many wear their team jackets) lots and lots of douches.

Things that will happen

1) The cops will not find whoever is behind this unless someone just plain rats these turds out. This isn't a knock on the cops, merely that they're not going to get the records from which IP logged onto a service originating out of Montenegro, trace it here to the states, get which service provider it originated from, and find the user. That's assuming the person didn't use a proxy or 3 anyway. If they want any hope of success, they need to lean on kids to squeal. Good luck with that, these being mostly upper-class kids who's parents probably have lawyers (and the stupid nonsense that is the anti-snitching creed from rap the past decade).

2) Moronic kids will always go about being moronic kids.

3) People will overreact about what should be done, despite there being little/no hope of finding out who this was.

The articles says the worst stuff has been edited out. Wondering where the line is between protected speech and threats. We'll have to see how this plays out.

The cops should launch an investigation on this matter because the student is a minor.

These kids should know that NJ would soon have whites in the minority. So they should get used to seeing leaders who don't look like them.

Prep is really not that diverse of a school, it is a Catholic, based school where it's students are of European based background coming from the same cut of cloth. Most of the families are from all over N.J. with a wad of wealth to push them forward. If anything it is segragated just like Jersey City into different pockets and tax assessments. Mc Nair/Academic has more of a diverse crowd equaly spread out amongst the new 4 basic groups that makeup J.C. And by the way they are still kids.

These aren't "kids being kids" - these are young adults learning to navigate their way through the world, beginning in one of the most ethnically and racially diverse cities in the region. This behavior needs to stop right now, before these "kids" learn that bullying and hatred and anonymous intimidation tactics are acceptable. It's sneaky and essentially cheating the democratic system.
And it is most certainly worth a news story, just as we see other young people actually committing suicide after their bullies use social media to humiliate and attack them. If it is an adult sending these messages to a child, then I just don't know how to respond, other than prosecute that adult for harassing a child.
And the "kids being kids" excuse can be likened to the "boys being boys' explanation that has been offered up as reason for rape, assault, and other violence that no one seems to want to deal with.

You know something we don't? Since the cowardly sender has yet to be found, it could be anyone and not just some punkass kid.

Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal

Jersey City police are investigating a vile bias incident in which an black student at St. Peter's Prep was sent racist text messages "warning" him to drop out of a student government election, officials said.

"We have NEVER and will NEVER have an (n-word) to lead our school," was one of the messages sent Thursday to the 16-year-old student, who lives in Jersey City. The message went on to call President Obama by his middle name Hussein and used a racial slur in referring to Obama.

"We will never make that mistake again. Drop out right now ..." the text message continued, according to a police report.

A 14-year-old student at the Downtown school this evening said "It's plain out wrong and it's sad. It's sad what people will do to bring someone down."

The second message reads "Whites! Your a waste on this earth, a waste at this school, and most importantly a Waste for this campaign." That message called the student government candidate a "slave" and used a racial slur.

The third message to the student contains the warning to drop out of the race and the fourth reads, in part, "COMEONE your black!!! lol your a joke for even trying to run...," the report says.

Police called to the school Thursday afternoon met with the victim, the victim's father and Dean of Students John Morris, who had printed out the four messages.

Police have not yet been able to determine who sent the text messages. They called the number the text was sent from and the line connected to a computer app called TEXTME. The victim told police he had no idea who sent the texts and he did not want the investigation to go any further.

St. Peter's Prep spokesman James Horan said he was shocked by the messages. He said on Monday the school will start its own investigation and make a decision on how to address the matter with students.

"These are some of the most vile and abhorrent messages I have ever heard of. It is so over the line," Horan said. "The incident is contrary to not only everything that Prep stands for, especially with regard to embracing diversity and teaching tolerance, but also something that is not at all reflective of the day-to-day attitude of our students."
