That's pretty interesting. Don't the non-resident Jersey City police know how to do this without grant money?

Highlight #1: "Overtime." A prize to the first person who correctly posts the number of police overtime hours $27k will pay for. Highlight #2: "will allow." Allow me a wild prediction. The grant is announced now to show what a great job Chief Comey and Fearless Leader are doing. No tickets will be written before May 15. "It takes time to implement these things..."

just start handing out traffic tickets and they'll make $27K a day.
There's no shortage of vehicular infractions around here...

Id love to see enforcement of cars required to stop for a designated crosswalk when a pedestrian is trying to cross, especially outside of downtown.
This would be alot easier to enforce if we had foot patrols!

Will drivers now have to stop at red lights?

Will cars parked too close to the corners and cross walks finally be held accountable for inhibiting visibility?

But that's how they get that special entitled feeling. There is a lot of bad and only some good in NYPD, JCPD and Hoboken PD, in my experience. Over the years, I have lost all respect for them.

$27 grand will last about 1 week - 5 officers doing about a weeks work on overtime ... what about the rest of the year?

I've never understood why the police need a grant to do their jobs.

Remember that when the police conduct their stops that often they are looking at whether you come to a full 3 second stop at the stop sign and stop for pedestrians in crosswalks not at traffic lights.

By The Jersey Journal
The Jersey City Police Department has received a $27,900 grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway to beef up pedestrian and traffic safety in the city. The funds will allow the Police Department to step up pedestrian safety enforcement, clamp down on aggressive driving, promote seat belt usage, and tackle DWI-related traffic violations. The grant will fund overtime patrols that are assigned to high-risk areas and education for motorists and pedestrians on the potential penalties associated with violating traffic laws. As part of this initiative, police officers will employ a "pedestrian decoy," officials said. "Police officers will ensure that drivers adhere to stop and yield signs, observe traffic signals, and stop for pedestrians in crosswalks," Police Chief Thomas Comey said in a statement.
