Jcmc is your local and only not for profit hospital in JC. It's a magnet hospital ( nursing excellence) and though I haven't had the need to use the hospital services yet, I would do so if I needed to. In my opinion er's are inundated with people using it for non emergencies which they could just go to their pcp for or people who use the ER as their own PCP. We live in jc so yes we are going to see traumas, ( being a state designated trauma centre) and cops and handcuffs/ restraints, intoxicated patients and psychiatric patients.

Disclaimer: I work at JCMC but not in the ER.

Check them out for yourself

I'm not sure if I would say this is the best place for children, since I have no first hand knowledge. I'm a big fan of Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital many friends with children have been there and had very good experiences.

+1. What a huge difference a good leader makes. The new CEO has done a fantastic job at turning that place around. My experience in 2006 versus 2011 was like night and day.

Although it is no where close to JC, I have to agree (if you are planning a hospitalization or can get in NY), go to New York Presbyterian. I was there many times with my elderly mother in the past and they have been great. Emergency room can be a long wait, but the care is excellent. I believe this is the ER that is covered by the Discovery Health & Fitness show "NY ER".

New York Presbyterian hands down. I don't care if I'm having a heart attack, I want to be treated there, I'll take my chances with the traffic.

JCMC is a total joke.

Jersey City Medical Center used to be a dump. Now they are the newest facility in the area and the only one that isn't a for profit. I used to have a neighbor who was a surgeon at christ who frequently said "I wouldn't take my dog to christ hospital if he got sick". He ended up leaving there about six months ago because he told me that Christ hospital, bayonne medical center, and hoboken were all bought by the same owners who demand that all patients be admitted through the ER so they get more money.

I live in Trump towers and unfortunately there arent that many doctors offices close by. Recently I had two very positive experiences with Jersey City Medical Center. I went through the concierge program, that someone mentioned in a previous post, and had a fantastic experience. it was recommended to me by my doorman at Trump. I Was preregistered for my mri, was met by the concierge (suzanne who was terrific), and even met the radiologist who walked me through what he was seeing. The next great experience i had there was at 8p on a saturday night a few weeks ago. My son had a bad eye infection and his pediatrician was closed. I went to libertyhealth.org and clicked "Skip the ER wait". I brought him in at the scheduled time and we were in and out within 30 minutes. Best hospital experience I ever had!

thumbs up for JCMC. My gf was brought through the ER with a lower leg break and she was treated immediately. She had her follow up surgery there as well. Yes there are sketchy people here and there, but it's to be expected for our area.

I am very interested in this topic as well. We recently had to take our one year old son to the ER from his doctor in Hoboken. I didn't know where to go, but they sent me to the Hackensack Pediatric Hospital. The drive wasn't the worst in the middle of the day, but I can imagine it being almost impossible during rush hour.

The care was adequate. He was examined in the triage room immediately. It then took over an hour to be brought in to an ER room and a couple more hours to be examined. However, the doctor was good and they seemed to care. They figured out what was wrong by testing for things the pediatrician never did.

Overall seems very clean and I liked that its was a pediatric center. Still, we are trying to figure out where is close that we would go in a real emergency. We keep coming back to the idea of just going into Manhattan where some of the best hospitals in the world are located. Especially if its for something where we'll be admitted.

not a big fan of Christ hospital, they almost killed me a couple of years ago. Before my last incident there, they were ok for the minor emergency.....broken bones and such. Last time I went there with a skull splitting headache and a fever of 102. They poked and proded me and did a spinal tap which supposedly came back clear. They sent me home with some asprin and the advice that "fever is a sign that the body is fighting something". Got home that night and tried to sleep, woke up at 2am not being able to see.....along with the fever and headache. Got myself to Beth Israel in NYC and they kept me for over 2 weeks in ICU. Turns out it was a form of meningitis. I don't remember the first week there, I was so sick.
Turns out they were right....fever was a sign my body was fighting something. I wouldn't send my pig there to get looked at.

I was ambulanced to Christ Hospital once for food poisoning (it was that bad). In the emergency room I was left in a wheel chair till a doctor came over and asked about me, and then yelled at the staff for not bringing me in (at this point I was barely able to talk or breathe).

After being given something to help me hydrate and sleep I was just left there. I managed to get 1 piece of ice out of a nurse, but they wouldn't give me anything else in fear I would throw it up. I never have been so thirsty in my life so had to check myself out just so I could get to a vending machine and grab a drink.

On a side note, the doctor complimented me on how nicely the long scar on the back of my head healed from some past neurosurgery I had at Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick. She joked, "You sure didn't have that done here!"

We took my toddler to the JC Medical Center Emergency Room a few weekends ago for what turned out to be "the croup". The service and attention we got from the staff was absolutely top notch. Don't get me wrong... it's a pretty scary place... the clientele was shady (cops w/ "perps", corrections officers w/ prisoners, random crazies, etc), but the service was excellent. They are also a NJ state trauma center so there is always at least one of every type of specialist on duty 24/7. In a true emergency I think that is the place to go.

Do NOT go to Christ Hospital in the heights. In my 38 years, I never knew anyone who went into that place and came out better.

JCMC's emergency room is average from my two experiences there (once as a patient, once bringing my husband). I was admitted to the ICU (after going to the emergency room) at JCMC last year and the care was great in ICU. Once I was out of ICU and moved to a regular floor, the quality of care decreased greatly. I was left out, unmonitored, in a cold, random hallway for close to two hours waiting in line to be x-rayed with the hospital's one working machine. Worst experience ever ugh among other complaints.

I'd never schedule a planned surgery of any kind for JCMC (based on past experience) or probably any local hospital lol. For a planned surgery I'd go somewhere further away. But the ER at JCMC was adequate (just hope you're not admitted ha) and I'd assume better than Christ Hospital in the heights(though I've never been). I've never been to Bayonne or Hoboken hositals either, bit of a further drive. Aren't all 4 of these hospitals owned by the same company now? Not sure what the other local hospitals are.

Knock on wood, just wondering what people's experiences were for ER with local hospitals. For instance in a late night emergency where would you go? I have never been inside any of JC's medical facilities.
