Re: What has Nidia Lopez accomplished in Ward C?

Mouse -

Of the list that you provided, only # 8 and #12 are actual thing that she appears to have done on her own. The rest of the items are things she either just voted on or is a supports.
Almost every item on your list is something that I can say I "accomplished" simply by standing before the council as a regular citizen and voicing my support for during the public comment portion.
If she went out and found $$ for additional police and firefighters, then wrote a grant request for it, then walked that issue through the council, she should not be afraid to show up for a debate and stand up for her record. Most of those items are things that are done by other city agencies and she just had to vote, how the mayor asked her to vote, as a puppet of that administration.

There is a nice banquet room in the basement of Renato's...at the back of Pizza Masters on Central. It has its own entrance from the parking lot in the back. (so your wedding party isn't walking through the pizza shop)

I have had the pleasure of seeing him out with his family getting loaded at The Lincoln Inn, before it closed. Got so drunk his wife had to shoot him up with insulin (I am assuming) right there at the table in the middle of dinner service. Wonderful sight, drunk and unable to care for himself.

not a big fan of Christ hospital, they almost killed me a couple of years ago. Before my last incident there, they were ok for the minor emergency.....broken bones and such. Last time I went there with a skull splitting headache and a fever of 102. They poked and proded me and did a spinal tap which supposedly came back clear. They sent me home with some asprin and the advice that "fever is a sign that the body is fighting something". Got home that night and tried to sleep, woke up at 2am not being able to see.....along with the fever and headache. Got myself to Beth Israel in NYC and they kept me for over 2 weeks in ICU. Turns out it was a form of meningitis. I don't remember the first week there, I was so sick.
Turns out they were right....fever was a sign my body was fighting something. I wouldn't send my pig there to get looked at.

Crazy, I don't feel lucky that my taxes have ONLY gone up $4000 in the last 9 years. I might feel lucky if my quality of life has gone up as well, or if I saw a new street sweeper on the road, or if the jersey city police dept. didn't have to drive around in cars with only one head light working, or if they could keep the trash cans emptied on the street corner rather then removing them, or any other small but meaningful issue. what has that $4000 per year gotten me? A mayor who seems complacent to keep the status quo. That value proposition doesn't add up to me. I don't mind taxes going up if there is a direct result on the other side and I don't see or feel that result.

All I know is that I feel like the current city government has failed me. In 2004 the property taxes for my house in the heights was $7,369 and in 2012 it was $11,494. That is a 56% increase. Do I feel any safer as a result? NO. Am I embarrassed at the state of disrepair of the city (buildings, roads, infrastructure) when I am able to coax friends to come and visits? YES. Do I lay awake at night wondering where all my tax money is going? Why I don't feel like the quality of my life has improved over the past 8 years living in the city? YES and YES.

Everyone can spin figures and numbers, but as a "boots on the ground" citizen, I feel that I have been misled and let down by the current administration. Jersey City is falling apart, yet my property taxes have increased over 50%.

Re: Hurricane insurance claims handled by mortgage banks

They do have a HUGE interest in your project. They own your house. It is the collateral for the loan they gave you to buy it. (Or whatever bank you wen through....the loan might have been sold to US Bank after the fact) They want to know that the work is done to repair their collateral and that you don't just walk away from the house and pocket the money leaving them "holding the bag".

That said, they (any bank) usually sucks at this. I am in the middle of a $100k claim and Wells Fargo is holding my money. It took me a while to get everything they needed to them. It felt like I sent it 15 times. I finally got fed up and went the overkill route. It cost me money, but I was able to get on with my life. In one day I sent them 4 copies of everything (certified mail, UPS, Fed-Ex, and fax) I also scanned a copy and got someone's email there and sent it to them as well.

Since that time, everything has been good. They send their inspector out pretty quickly when I call for a draw and they call me every thirty days if they don't hear from me.

Good luck

does the city consider your building a high rise? (7 stories or taller, i think) I know high rises are required to have fire marshals on every floor and evacuation plans and have monthly tests. it is most likely something to do with how the building is classified with the city. The fire inspectors are pretty reasonable and approachable. Call their office on Manilla and ask them to clarify.

This city has some balls. A ticket for this nonsense but i never hear about the city issuing tickets to buildings that don't shovel their snow.

I would fight this. I have been through this before and the judges are reasonable. With your ticket, you should have also received a picture of the debris. If it is just that pallet, i would take your receipt from the appliance delivery, along with the picture, and go to court and explain the situation. Any reasonable person will see that you are not trying to throw out construction debris.

You may also want to send a copy regular mail (with delivery confirmation, nothing he has to sign, just confirmation from the post office that they left it at the address). If it doesn't get returned to you by the post office, then you can assume he received that notice. If he is local, you may want to have a friend tag along with you and witness you hand delivering the notice to him. That way, you have someone to call into court if you have to go that far. This way you can say you sent certified mail, regular mail, and hand delivered.....the courts couldn't say you didn't go above and beyond trying to give notice.

the other thing to worry about with the "side job" is insurance. Not just the warranty. make sure you aren't going to loose everything if he or one of his guys falls off the roof and gets hurt, because they sue you and your insurance because that is the only policy around.

I am the super of a 100 unit condo bldg. All the units have central air. Almost everyone in the bldg uses Royal Heating/Cooling. They are local (jersey city). I don't have their number (they are in the phone book and online). Chris is the owner and the tech that always comes out to my bldg. He is a nice easy going guy. Try them.

Not trying to cause panic, but could this also be a scam? Someone trying to get into those apartments to rob them? You hear stories, all the time, of the elderly being victimized by "the water department" needing to get into an apartment to "fix" something. I mean it is a stretch that they would be posting a notice so far in advance, but stranger things have happened. Maybe worth a trip the your local precinct also.

Condo's do get a 5 year "green card" inspection from the state. I am the "super" of a condo bldg and we just went through this (and we went through it on at another bldg a couple of years ago). I too own a couple of multifamily bldgs and I have never had to go through a 3 year inspection from the city. I do not like the sound of this. I can see this being some kind of revenue generator.

jerseycitypower , I mentioned the Greenville section in my coments because I believe that to have maximum impact, the public hangin should take place in the community that the crimes take place. In this instance, based on the story that started this thread........(((We've interrupted some very prolific and violent criminal careers with these arrests, and that puts the odds back in favor of the people of the Greenville community," said State Police Col. Rick Fuentes at a news conference yesterday in Jersey City, hours after 26 of the suspects were arrested.)))....these particular crimes were committed in Greenville. So, take these people back there, make them walk the streets, and hang them. Heck, you could even make it more impactful and have them build their own gallow's.

If a crime is committed in Summit, NJ or (this is for you) any Crackertown in Whitebread County, USA, they that is where the criminal should hang. Take them back to the scene of the crime to have the most impact.

As for your other comments, I think they say more about you them me. I guess you can take anyting out of context, but if you read the whole comment...in its entirety... it is not racist. It isn't intened to come across as racist, nor do I think it does come across as racist. I am just trying to make our community better.

JerseyCityPower, I believe you misread my posting. No where in my posting did I use the word lynching. I clearly stated that these animals would have unfettered access to their constitutional rights that everyone enjoys. I did not mention, nor infer, they should be grabbed up out of their beds in the middle of the night and strung up at the nearest tree. You are out of your mind. I also never mention skin color in my postings. I could care less of who is shown in the picture. I am talking about ANY animal that is involved in these activities. I hope I cleared up any confusion that you had concerning my posts.

Well--GOOD NEWS!
We helped bring lynching to IRAQ!

It's a FREE and DEMOCRATIC country NOW! Yippee!

Maybe YOU can move there and enjoy the freedoms we reigned down on the people!

And what would YOU do with those CONVICTED here in Jersey City -- of 'white-collar crimes'?

JerseyCityPower, what would you recommend? Any criminal element that would shoot up a street trying to get at eachother, regardless of the time of day, who else they may kill, or what buildings they are shooting into (i.e. a daycare), obviously has no regard for anyone or anything but themselves. In my opinion, they should loose their right to participate in society. However, with our current criminal justice system, even if these guys go to jail they can still run their activities, So what is the point of jail. I mean a guy got shot in the face a month ago and was arrested again in this sweep.

After they have all had access to their rights guaranteed them by the constitution, if they are found guilty by a jury of their peers, why not parade them around town and invite everyone down to watch them hang. Think of the impact that class trip would have students growing up. Wanna bet that drug violence goes down in the years to come if in the back of your mind you have to worry about being hanged to death in the park in your neighborhood with all your friends and family watching?

It's worth a try in my opinion, nothing they have done so far seems to work. Do you have any suggestions?

What ever happened to the days of public executions? Let these people have their day in court (I am sure the state did their job and has an open and shut case), then take them to a park in Greenville, invite the whole town to come and watch, and HANG THEM. These animals don't have any fear shooting up the streets to get what they want. As a community, we need to put fear back into these animals and what better way then to parade them through the streets to a local park (in the neighborhood where the crime was committed) and hang them.

How do we force these bozo's to make some real tough hard decisions? In these times, everyone of us has had to make tough, feel like your backed into a corner, decisions concerning our own personal finances. Yet the clowns that we have elected to run our city don't seemed concerned about that.

I believe that the budget that they are considering is for the fiscal year that started in July of 2009. What is up with that? They have been spending money, knowing that they didn't have the revenue to cover it. I don't know the last time the city council passed a budget on time....before the fiscal year started. In the past, they have been able to sell this parking lot, or sell that plot of land to fill the gaps. But they don't have that luxury now. Yet, here we are in January of 2010 and they are trying to pass a budget for July of 2009. Why can't our elected officials take their jobs more seriously? At the end of the day, they don't care about the residents of JC. They can't, not based on their actions. All they care about are themselves and what they can get out of it.

We need a goverment who isn't affraid to make the tough decisions, the kind of decisions that have to be made in the real world in real business'. IF YOU DON"T HAVE THE MONEY, DON"T SPEND IT. You can't just keep putting it on the backs of citizens....especially now that the money train won't be running from Trenton anytime soon.

The is a place up in the heights, at the corner of New York Ave. and Hutton St, that is a mattress factory. They don;t sell them out of there but they make them there. You may want to pop your head in there and see about cutting something to your specs. If you come up Palisade and turn onto Hutton, the first street you come to is New York. Make a left turn and pull into the first parking lot on the right. It is a big brick warehouse with a huge brick smoke stack. I have no idea of the name of the place, I just know someone who worked there and that is what he said he did.

I use to tip our garbage men in the past because they too took just about anything I put out. and if I was willing to put it in the truck, they would let me put anything in there. (I gutted my entire house without a dumpster) But that was when trash was collected during the day. I woudl give them cash sometimes and others I would just leave a six pack of soda or water out for them. One thing that I did notive was we wouldn't always get the same crew, so now that they collect at night, I am never around to see who the normal crw is and who the replacement crews is. I am now hesitant to leave anything out for them.

So the City didn't have a problem using an appraisal on this property dating back almost two years ago...from the top of the market. Apparently there are no standards with regards to that. So I suppose that means that when they reval my property and try to raise my taxes I can appeal it by using an appraial on my property from 2002 - 2003 or earlier?

They also have a website, oldegoodthings.com
