We liked Cinco de Mayo but it became way too salty...will try Los Tres Chilitos

The taco cart outside the liquor store on Congress and Webster is fantastic. The guy who runs it is super nice and has great tacos and pinchos. It's not always there, but he is usually there on Saturdays but never on Sundays.

+1 on Robalinos, they were at the Ecuadorian festival a few years ago and it was insanely delicious.

Is Cinco de Mayo on 401 Central Avenue at Thorne still open? They have really really tasty tacos and other Mexican food there.

Carribean Flavor on Franklin Street across from PS 8 has a few veg dishes that are very flavorful (curried chickpeas with potatoes for example). He also has oxtail and other dishes that my husband thinks are great. His roti is good as well.

Robalinos on Palisade and Ferry is a great choice for Ecuadorian.

The Heights really could use a good Mexican place.

La Concha is next to Gino's. If you like seafood, try La Concha's stew. It is usually made on a Friday & is perfect for a snowy night like tonight.

Don't forget Good Year for Chinese. Generous portions & fast delivery.

I love Marco's. Also love Rumba's, Gino's, Rizzo's, and Grille 274. For a quick and tasty empanada, Pedro's on South & Webster has a few different varieties as well.

Heads up on the new chef in Marco's. Last week had a great Italian wedding soup, and string bean salad. Just now it was the buffalo chicken stromboli. Outstanding! They're shaking up the menu with a different unique specials list daily. Get some.

Salumeria Ercolano, behind Puccini's on West Side Ave, Italian deli with both hot food and sandwiches..

Healy's Tavern on Newark Ave also has good cheese steaks.. Very cheap for being so close to downtown..

Lincoln Inn is not open yet. :(

Best places on Central Ave. restaurant wise are:

Renato's
La Concha
El Sabrosa (Spelling)
Rumba's

Best Chinese is Good Year. They are next door to El Sabrosa.

I go to Mazur's in Lyndhurst. Don't care of Goerhig's or Monteleone's.

Great hearty American delicatessen and grocery store.

Also Gino's Pizza on Central (right near Podewitz) is great for pizza and basic Italian items (delicious zuppe de pesce). It has a fun Jersey-esque vibe if you sit in the booth area for a while and people watch. They also have a separate dining room area.

I also liked the bakery (forgot the name - Goeherig's?) at the top of Central Avenue. Don't know if it's still in business.

I don't get why people think Gino's Pizza is so great. I find it greasy. Pizza Masters & Rizzo's are the better Pizzas.

Goerhig's Bakery is rather mediocre. I only go there out of desparation.

La Concha on central is my favorite Heights place to eat. Small family run place, great fried chicken and rice and beans. The place has a friendly neighborhood atmosphere and when the mom is behind the counter she has always super nice to me.

Andrea's salumeria has quality subs and mozzerella.

Zapp's on Oakland Ave.

Inexpensive food, excellent buffalo wings, reasonably priced drinks.

Tommy's on Central is horrible; the staff is so rude and lazy. I refuse to eat there anymore after the way they treat their customers. Just saying ...

I'm looking for some recommendations for places in the heights (well actually any neighborhood other than DTJC). I went to a couple Italian specialty stores/delis years ago but didn't make it a habit of getting up there but I'd like to.

Pizza
Burgers
Sandwiches
Italian
mom&pops
specialty markets
Greek
and I'd really like to find a Chicago style Taqueria now that Taqueria will be closed for a while.

thanks

I thought there was a thread here somewhere but couldn't find it.
