Most of the carjackings in JC/Hudson County lately are the work of a crew from Newark/Essex County. They have been hitting all over North Jersey. They target expensive cars/suvs like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus etc. They usually follow their victims most of the time. They go to any neighborhood they think they can get the type of car(s) they are looking for that day so you being in a "low crime" or "crime free" area means nothing to them. These guys are in it for money not looking for a Honda/Toyota for joy rides

I moved here 6 years back from New York. I have lived at 3 different places downtown and even in the Heights for a month. I have never felt unsafe in any of these places.

Better keep your head on a swivel if you're driving a Mercedes.

There are ghetto people all over this city, they have been here way b4 u got here.. and even downtown, no lightrail needed. I lived in DM for many years and all I saw on Newark ave was ghetto with some yuppies thrown in. Those who assume they are safe because they are downtown are fools.

The ghetto people have easy access to downtown because of the light rail.

Another incident, perhaps the same guy
A masked carjacker robbed a 2012 Mercedes-Benz at gunpoint Monday night in Jersey City, police said. But when the victim asked for his dog, which was in the front seat, the carjacker gave him his pooch, reports said. The vehicle's owner, a 50-year-old city resident, said he was in his vehicle at Pavonia Avenue and Washington Boulevard at 8:40 p.m. when a man wearing a ski mask approached the SUV wielding a handgun, reports said. The car robber barked "Get the (expletive) out of the car or I'll shoot you," the victim told cops. The victim said that when he opened his car door, the carjacker grabbed him and pushed him to the pavement, reports said. The victim then pleaded for robber not to shoot him and to let him have his dog, which was seated in the front seat. The carjacker then handed the man the dog, according to police reports. The carjacker drove away in the vehicle and the victim refused medical attention at the scene, reports said. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this incident should contact the Jersey City Detective Bureau at (201) 547-JAIL. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... y_carjacker_lets_vic.html

I've had a few incidents in some of our local parking lots that have given me pause in the recent months. 7:40 pm is not an unreasonable time to be out grocery shopping etc in town.
We all need to be really careful especially those of us who have kids and can get distracted when buckling them in their seats. If you see anybody hovering near your car or anything that looks off, bring yourself and your child back into the store. How scary for this woman and it's a good thing she screamed as loud as she did. I'm not sure what I would do in this situation, I tend to clam up when I'm frightened.

Likely Shoprite pleaded with the cops not to put the actual location in. Bad for business to have mothers with kids in expensive cars being targeted by thugs. Mr_Johnson's right, this PC crap is absurd, lets not describe the perp. They're more likely to say the color of his hat than the color of his skin.

I wonder if this happened in the ShopRite parking lot.
The address of ShopRite is 400 Marin Blvd.

I'm surprised they said "man" and not "person." Don't want to be too descriptive, or accused of racism.
