I believe that is a public pier so you'd probably have to get a permit from the city. You could also have your event at the Hyatt - they have a terrace on the pier but of course it would cost more because you would have to buy your food/drinks from the hotel.

I have a new idea. What about the pier at Exchange Place, near the Hyatt? The pier that has the tables with the cool looking umbrellas. I believe I've seen or heard of organized events there. Can anybody recommend a number to call to ask if it would be possible to use that space for a party?

Inquire a bit further. All Points West sold alcohol. They got a permit for that somehow. How much that cost, I have no idea.

It makes no sense whatsoever. There are many European countries where people can drink alcohol in public, and life goes on just fine. Sucks that those of us who are responsible have less liberty because of the people who can't handle themselves.

Highly unlikely, having lived in several such buildings, it was hard enough for them to allow residents to have parties much less outsiders.

You may want to look into another possibility in LSP at the Marina. I saw a party going on last week on the big red barge type boat next to Liberty House. It looked like a small company party with catered food and alcohol with tables setup on the deck of the boat which is large enough for your group. Don't have a number for them but I'm sure you could find it if you tried. Good luck.

I'm looking for an outdoor(ish) space, preferably with some sort of nice view, for $50 per person or under, or $2k total. Something original ... I'd rather not do the same old open bar thing, at a bar.

Do any of the residential towers allow access to their rooftops for a fee?

I'm in touch with the Ellis Island people too, thanks 12345.

Assuming they weren't flooded too badly, you could also try doing the event at Maritime Parc.

Might be sort of expensive though.

Tell us when your party is so we can come and crash it. :)

You can have a party with drinking and catering on Ellis Island; you and your guests will be permitted to drive over the bridge from Liberty State Park and they can arrange fireworks. That is amazing, please invite me!

Not sure about alcohol in the picnic area. You don't want to repeat this: http://jclist.com/modules/newbb/viewt ... t&topic_id=19408&forum=10

That said, there must be some parts of the park where it's allowed (Liberty House, etc). Good luck with your party.

Your best bet is probably to call them. (201) 915-3403. They've had numerous events with catered food and alcohol in the place before. Given the picnic area, I can't see how the food would be any issue. However, for alcohol, there's usually some additional hurdles you have to jump through at parks. It's not always completely banned. It just may require you to spend some additional money to have an officer present or something like that.

Does anybody know how feasible it would be to throw a rather large party in LSP? This may be a pipe dream, but I was hoping to throw a birthday party there (maybe like 3-7 pm), with about 40 people or so, with alcohol, catered food, and music. I'm assuming the alcohol and music will be my biggest hurdles? Is this possible, at all?
