Until then, I am going to walk right past on my way to the Light Rail.

The problem is that if things did get rough out there, the cops MIGHT show up and chase them away without arresting anyone. Then the incidents would happen again and again and again.

So do they live or work around there? What do they look like and what are they wearing -- take some photos!

Plastic cups and Coors light cans -- maybe "Wall Street West" workers - heading home to Manhattan?

Probably were people of color, which would explain why people in Paulus Hook are upset that the police hadn't come to arrest them.

Ian, If you don't have anything constructive to add to the conversation, don't bother with bad attempts at humor.

Re: IanMac47: Who really cares? Are you the alcohol police? The fun police? Why does it bother you that a bunch of people were having a good time? Was it because you weren't invited? Is it because someone took away your teddy bear when you were two years old and you have trust issues? Why is it necessary to make this your business? Were these people threatening you with too much fun? Where they assaulting you and shoving a funnel down your throat forcing you to consume binge drink with them?

I came home last night through Exchange place and saw the same thing as well. But I witnessed them going into the PATH station around 10:45pm. I was going up the escalator and they were coming down and I noticed a group of guys drink something out of plastic cups and one guy had a coors light can. I was thinking, 'Wow, these guys aren't even trying to hide it.'

I didn't realize this was going on up on the waterfront out in the open. If that is the case, it should be stopped. This isn't New Orleans. Eventually this will lead to trouble, people will get drunk, harass the public. You want to drink outdoors go to the beer garden.

Exchange Place has gone from dangerous (1980's, early 90's), to boring/quiet, and now -- where people are living and socializing in the area.

From a historical perspective, the fact that people feel comfortable hanging out in Exchange Place is an improvement.

I agree that lax enforcement is a potential issue, but how about we give the bar and restaurant owners a break, and perhaps let the cops focus on real crime? It has been very tough to make a buck in the area (taxes, regulations, low foot traffic, etc).

In the grand scheme of things, this is not a big issue.

Um...no. I think people get concerned due to the history of Jersey City's lack of enforcement. Parties like these start out innocently enough but in time can grow to large public disturbances/fights not to mention large quanties of trash being left all over the area. These situations can escalate and continue to occur repeatedly do to the fact that when police are called they fail to show up or if they do show they arrest no one. Drinking/open containers in public is illegal

@ianmac47 this is the third city I've lived in since 2000; it's all i know.

@corybraiterman Along the waterfront at night are families out on an evening stroll and lots of commuters walking home. Hardly non-residential.

completely agreed, someone needs to stop these merrymakers from having a good time in a non-residential neighborhood.

After walking home from the PATH at Exchange Place tonight at 11pm, and seeing the amount of people partying, I'm starting to think it is getting out of hand.

Just now I walked past no less than three groups of people with open containers. Bottles of boozes, beers, plastic cups.

I find it quite shocking that this has become the norm, and there is no police presence at all.

In fact, wasn't a person shot and thrown into the river there not too long ago?

What are your thoughts on this?

Brian
