This was in the 1/24/13 JJ print edition. ( I needed a magnifying glass and high intensity lamp to read it, talk about Sun Shine law..geez.) Do you really think with a name like Michael Ryan there would be any problems getting this passed? How much red tape did Barcade have to cut through before they were ?allowed? to open? I heard, thru the grapevine, they were gonna do a soft opening this week.
I peeked in on Sat and they extended the bar to go down the hallway and wrap around to the back room where the pool table was. If anyone sees it open or goes in, report back please.

My guess would be bar-centric, because when I looked inside a few weeks ago, the bar had been elongated, so the interior is mostly bar space. Between this, and Tommy's new Brightside Tavern on Bright Street, it'll be nice to have a couple of new local watering holes, especially if they have good bar food!

Fingers crossed that the new Barrow Street Bar will be open by football season. It appears that much of the work is done.

The "stop work" order has been removed. Perhaps renovation will continue at Barrow Street Bar.

I am fairly new to JC--four years. I have, however, learned a great deal about this city in a short time from the many local merchants and residents I have come to know. First, it is clear to me that JC's unprofessional and unsophisticated political leadership hasn't a clue how to manage a city. Second, the pervasive corruption allows a few key people to block changes that might impact their personal financial interest or that of those who are "connected." I support sensible regulations that promote a solid commercial foundation for business and protecting residents. They are not mutually exclusive.

As of yesterday, there was absolutely, 100% a reddish-orange stop work order sign posted on Barrow Street Bar's western-facing window.
I'm a bit bummed that the owners also own a couple of other bars. I enjoyed the true neighborhood bar feel of Barrow Street Bar, where the owner was always around.

I'm actually excited that someone who runs a good, long-term establishments is working on the place instead of someone in-it-for-a-minute.
I spent a fair share of time at P.J.'s and when it was sold, it went way downhill. Michael Anthony's has been pretty successful since they opened it. Following their track-record, I'm sure Michael and the fam from PJ's/MA's wouldn't be involved if they didn't think they could create something good and sustainable.

True about #61?you newcomers know how to put pressure on people so maybe the city is starting to pay attention. When something like this (a bar springing up) comes up they know they can?t sit on it. That?s fresh!
Again I an not anti-bar , I left my mark in (and outside )many a bar back in the day.

RYAN, CHAIRMAN, JC PLANNING BOARD Two ..guess who owns Michael Anthony?s ? ?The restaurant is owned by Michael Ryan, a highly reknown Jersey City proprietor who also serves as Chairman of the Jersey City Planning Board. ? Three ?guess who used to own PJ Ryan?s ? Michael Anthony Ryan former owner of PJ Ryan's Pub and Restaurant, in Jersey City (and someone on this thread mentioned he is opening there again) Hey I wonder if he needs any stinking permits? I don?t need no stinking permits!! Side question?how can someone who owns a business in JC be the chairman of the JC planning board? He could be putting the brakes on other businesses that may pop up and take some of his customers. Sounds like a conflict of interest to me. Hey wasn?t the brakes just applied on Barcade????
