Hope no one was looking for "Fair & Balanced".

"Congratulations! The house you bought in Jersey City in the mid-?80s has increased sevenfold in value. Condolences: The city is hiking your taxes so much you?ll have to take out a new mortgage."

Hello -- I am writing a piece for the New York Post on the effect of revaluation on Downtown property owners who are seeing their taxes go up quite suddenly. I don't get it. If his name is Mateusz, why is it named Mathew's? Did he think the global melting pot that is JCList would not be comfortable with such an ethnic name? How could that be?

Or is he taking his cues from the current political scene, and he realized if he started #namergate, he could get all the free publicity he wants from the ensuing JCList controversy?

I say we come together in the way only JCList can and give this guy what he deserves....a 30 post thread arguing about the proper way to name something!

LET FREEDOM RING!

N.J.'s best burger: Vote for your favorites now!

Guys -

I've come to really appreciate how this board can critically approach subjects and even how passionate the arguments can get sometimes, but I've posted today for a different reason.

I came across the poll on NJ.com through a friend who runs a nominated Jersey City establishment, and rather than come here and ask you to help him reach the top, I thought it may be better to ask the folks of JCList to help ALL of the Jersey City establishments nominated to make the semi-finals.

So I've created a cheat sheet for you.

Best bar burger
Nominees: White Star Bar, Corkscrew Bar & Grill, Park Tavern

Best restaurant burger
Nominee: Maritime Parc

Best burger joint burger
Nominee: Left Bank

Best diner burger
Nominee: None

Best specialty or veggie burger
9th and Coles, HopScotch, Jersey City Veggie Burgers

By voting for these eight businesses, you can help raise interest in the local dining seen by helping gain impressions for these small businesses.

Please think about taking the time to help, and if you can, vote up to once per day if you're able to.

Thanks for your consideration

One more chart.

According to Zillow, it looks like the Bayonne sales market dipped further than Greenville after 2008 and continues to stay at lower levels.

Built it by hand using data from searches on Zillow's Local page

An example: http://www.zillow.com/jersey-city-nj/home-values/

Has a few assumptions (used recent sales price, not for sale or zillow prices for example) and a few problems (didnt isolate it to condos) but those problems are fairly consistent across geographies.

Had a few minutes this morning and was curious, so I used Zillow to build a chart

Seems from a pure GRM perspective, it's not very attractive right now.

Re: advice on commute to Manhattan

I will say I live on the waterfront and recently switched from a Light Rail / PATH commute to NY Waterway.

Here's my take (esp for 57th)
While its more expensive, I'd go NY Waterway in a heartbeat. Ferries, while they only run to Midtown every 30 minutes are on time 99% of the time vs a Path that while more frequent had at least 1 issue for me a month.

Here's an expected NY Waterway commute:
Leave on the 7:45 ferry to Midtown
Ride time: 15 minutes

Arrive at 39th Street Ferry terminal at 8:00
Get on the 57th street bus (free) and cruise up West Side Highway to Columbus Circle
Ride time: 10-15 minutes

Total commute time 25-30 minutes.

The ferry has a GPS map online that tracks all its buses, so on the way home if you don't feel like waiting the 10 minutes between runs, you can use the gps map to time the exit from your building every day (I do)

I couldn't be more happy with their service and gladly trade it for the extra $100 I pay per month over my old route as I save 30-60 minutes a day (10-15 hours a month).

Perhaps he just rode the HBLR to get to the meeting. I feel that way every time I pick up a train, especially as I hit the Newport Mall stop area.

Actually if you want to get the equation right

2A * 5A actually equals 10A^2

But I guess that's just par for JC schools.

I'm actually excited that someone who runs a good, long-term establishments is working on the place instead of someone in-it-for-a-minute.

I spent a fair share of time at P.J.'s and when it was sold, it went way downhill.

Michael Anthony's has been pretty successful since they opened it.

Following their track-record, I'm sure Michael and the fam from PJ's/MA's wouldn't be involved if they didn't think they could create something good and sustainable.
