Gosh - don't raptors eat pigeons?
I just moved into a place in Hamilton Park (well, 7th and Brunswick) in Januray after staying in Newport for a few months, I think I saw a hawk of some kind by the bus stop one morning. Thety must find food around here like piegeons or squirrells or whatnot.

UPDATE -- Took the pigeon to the Raptor Trust. Very friendly volunteer did the intake. We left the pigeon in their care. She might not make it, but we are hopeful.
To anyone who is interested, pay them a visit some day. Very friendly and welcoming, and their care and compassion for birds is quite evident. Robin, we chose not to call Animal Control, as we have heard too many horror stories, and didn't want to wait around in the off-chance that someone may, or may not, come by.

Raptor Trust is absolutely the right place. Some injured hawk will find that feathered rat very tasty.

If you still have the bird call 201-547-5477 and ask for an Animal Control officer to respond to your location. The bird will be taken to the vet and/or Rapture Trust.
You should always call animal control at 201-547-4888. If it's after normal business hours following the instructions on the voice recording.

There is the Raptor Trust out in Morris county. It's about an hour drive and they will take just about any bird. Many years ago I took in an injured pigeon. Like yours his wings seemed fine and after a couple days of rest and food and pooping like crazy I released him and he was fine. Maybe you should wait a couple days and then see if she can fly away home.

You can bring injured birds to the Raptor Trust. It's about a half hour away, not sure if there is anything closer.

Injured Pigeon -- What to do?

Last night, my wife came across a roving pack of youths mocking and teasing an injured pigeon that was visibly bleeding. She brought the pigeon home for some rest and comfort. I took a look at the bird and her wings seem to be OK, but she was definitely hurt in the right thigh with a fairly sizable amount of blood already starting to dry off. We kept her overnight and she seems to be improving (she ate some bread and had some water). I seem to recall seeing a thread in here in which someone mentioned a rescue group, or some other organization, that can help out with injured pigeons. I can not find that thread.
What is the recommended / suggested approach at this point? We could wait it out and see how things play out, but we are concerned she might need some medical attention. She *could* have a broken bone (the youths mentioned above were kicking the pigeon) but I am afraid to keep prodding the bird and make things worse, or to even add to her stress. Any suggestions are welcome.
