My Honda Civic got stolen yesterday from Hamilton Park - parked on McWilliams right under the lights near 8th Street. We all know Civic's are one of the top cars to be stolen, but be cautious no matter what car you have, even in such a nice and well-lit neighborhood. If anyone sees a silver '98 Honda Civic parked around JC, gathering parking tickets, please post it here.

Thanks.

Get the club, disconnect the battery cable, and remove the computer module. At the Heights Captain's meeting the Captain stated that the Honda Civic is theee most popular car in the car theft market ###1 !! Wouldn't have been better to go through the trouble of making it harder for the theives then to now have to deal with replacing you vehicle.

Jeep Cherokee Sport Stolen twice, recovered twice.

March 2009 and February 2010, reported it the same day, recovered each time within 3-5 days.

My Honda Civic (2000) was stolen on Monday night. It was parked on 5th Street between Coles and Monmouth. I've heard stories about Civic being the most popular car among the car thieves. So I'm not surprised that it happened to mine. It's an old car (200K miles on it), but it was still running great. I was hoping it to last for another few years. Oh well... sometimes shit happens, I guess. I'm not terribly upset (because it was an old car), but it is a major inconvenience to get another car to get to work!

I wonder how often these stolen cars are recovered.

dfpm, my car was one of them! I checked the towing receipt and it says my car was picked up from 82 Laidlaw. It was sometime early April. Been going all over the place trying to get my car back. Finally got the release and the detective to take me to the car. It's in one of their own indoor impound lots, along with 5 or 6 other Civics that were picked up from the crime scene at the same time. I did see the photos of the raid, and they had more car parts than a typical shop. I will be getting my car back, as well as some of the parts that were stripped off. I'm assuming owners of the other cars involved have been notified and are doing the same.

It was the sheriff's office that got this. They mentioned something about the their running a chop shop out of the house, or somewhere along those lines. Happy that they got him and that I'm getting my car back, even though it's not totally in 1 piece.

I live in the Heights. Last week cops were hauling a car and engine blocks on a flat bed truck. They pulled them out of a garage near the corner of Laidlaw and Oakland. Sounds like the place. Glad they recovered your vehicle.

This Honda has been sitting on Pavonia Ave near Hamilton Park collecting tickets going on 2 weeks now. Maybe the person went away or maybe they died or perhaps it is stolen. Anyone recognize it? BTW, it has the correct Zone permit but it has just been sitting there.

Great news! The only JJ piece I remember reading recently was this piece about the cops nabbing a low life ripping off tires. Wasn?t in the heights but maybe the guy talked, maybe he was part of the ring.

Tire removal caught on camera leads to arrest of two men

1Late night tire-off leads to arrest

A 24-year-old Jersey City man had a ready response for a police officer who saw him removing the rear passenger tire and rims from a black Acura parked on Fairview Avenue early yesterday, according to reports.

Jonathan Sanchez, of Clendenny Avenue, told the officer he was taking the wheels off and putting ....

They found my car!!! It's in a few pieces though. Details coming later. Trying to search for the news article. Supposedly there's some stolen car ring thing going on, and my car was one of the ones recovered. Sheriff's office had a warrant to the house/garage my car was found at. This was sometime earlier this month, in Jersey City (Heights).

If anyone can find a news article about this, please link it here.

Thanks! Just read that 2007 article. I'm not suprised at that outcome.

I called the Phillips St. place. The guy there wasn't as bad as I thought it would have been, after reading that 2007 article. He asked for the last 6 digits of the VIN of my car (only had the recent car's VIN in front of me). He looked it up in his computer, and said it's not been recovered in Jersey City. I will check back every so often.

Thanks so much for your help. If anything else comes to mind, or if by any chance anyone sees the car roaming around on the streets, or somewhere collecting parking tickets, please post here.

.(read above post first)

Hey 9900 I found this thread on jclist from 2007, what a horror story. Doesn?t sound like the impound lot has it together.

http://jclist.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=11508

(If they don?t give you information ..as stupid as this might sound?.get a pair of binoculars pull your car (rental car ) over on the side of the NJTP before the toll plaza above the Phillips Street impound lot and see if you spot your car. I think there is a large fence on the Phillips street side so you can?t see in from there. Your car may be just sitting there)

Again good luck (sorry for the rental car pun)

MOTOR VEHICLE RECOVERY

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The JCIA works in conjunction with the Jersey City Police Department to safely secure and store all impounded vehicles. The Police Department impounds vehicles which are towed and stored at our Phillips Street facility. Our staff is responsible for notifying the owners that their vehicle has been impounded and what they need to do to have them released.

Unclaimed vehicles are auctioned at our facility located at 501 Route 440. All auctions are advertised in the local papers.

Vehicles that are impounded are held at a facility located at 100 Phillips Street in Jersey City. The Car Pound operates 24 hours a day but owners can only obtain a release of their vehicles during the following periods:

Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00AM and 5:30PM
Saturday between the hours of 8:00AM and 3:30PM.

You can reach Motor Vehicle Recovery at (201) 333-6336.

Thanks.

Just called Dente, and neither of my cars ended up there (they stole 2 from me in 3 months). They said all recovered cars in Newark end up there, except for the ones recovered in the east district. Any idea where cars recovered there may end up?

Also, does anyone know where they tow Jersey City recovered vehicles to? Seems like these lot people are nicer to deal with than police.

All stolen cars found in Newark end up at Dente Brothers, but you need a release in order for them to give you any info on it (if it's even there)
http://tinyurl.com/4f7z7ho

But first, JCPD will get a call from Newark PD. You could try calling NPD first to see if it's been recovered.
I would try Records and Communications Bureau
(973) 733-6057

I had to pick up a car at Dente and a guy I was talking to mentioned his car was stolen out of Irvington but never received a call from Irvington Police after it was found in Newark. His car sat at Dente for over 2 months before he knew and just ended up signing the car over to them since he couldn't pay all the storage and tow fees.

Called the police and let them know about the camera and video. They weren't really interested. They said the detectives know where all the cameras and businesses are, and if there's a video recorded, they will have it.

Anyone know of a number I can call in Newark to see if my car ended up there? I called JCPD and asked if the car has been recovered, and they told me if it has, I will get a call. This scares me, because a friend of mine, years back, had a car (Civic) stolen from him, and it was in an impound lot for 2 years, collecting fees. There was nothing left of that car, so he just left it there. He never got a call, even though police was informed that it was there, 2 years before he found it.

My '91 Civic CRX was broken into that night on Jersey Ave. My key cylinder was fubar'd and I found pieces of it on the floor the next day. This happened in very well lit area on busy street.

Volkswagens are equipped with immobilizers so the likeliness of them being driven away is slim. Instead people just smash windows and look for presents in the glove boxes.

Honda Civics are on every state's insurance list as easiest stolen.

My former super had his civic stolen 3 times, each time found in Newark, not hurt. Cops told him likely kids who come into JC by PATH and joyride cars easy to break into back home. Check with Newark police.

The tire shop I used was in south jersey, and I did not drive up in that car when I had the tires mounted.

A local business had cameras pointing at the street. I viewed the video yesterday, but didn't show much. The camera was pointed at the street in front of the car. You can clearly see when I parked the car, and when it was taken. What can't clearly be seen, but seen nonetheless, was one individual, walking up to the car, and a minute and a half later, drove off with it, then turned the headlights on. The car was taken less than 3 hours after I parked it. It took him only 1.5 minutes to break into the car, get the car started, get around the anti theft stuff and drive off. I was shocked at the video.

Only other thing I saw in the video was a minivan (dodge caravan/Plymouth voyager) driving by 5 to 10 mins before this, driving somewhat slow. May or may not have been related.

Theif that took the car, if you're reading this, keep the wheels and leave me the car. It serves you no purpose.

Maybe there is a racket with the tire place - Did you give them your address ? They could stake it out and once your lights went out in your home, they went to work !

The crooks would have information like;

What you look like
Where you live
Your vehicle information
The wheels you have
New tires

It might be far-fetched, but you never know !

Anyone out there with a Civic and shiny wheels want to test my theory and get some new tires ?

sounds like someone is driving around with a stinger and pulling these cars away fast. like a repo man would use.

I'd love to put a honeypot civic there to nab the farkers doing this. HOWEVER...

that whole dudley van vorst area, really all the way to grand is a blackhole, and sketchy as hell. I'm a big guy, but i wont walk around there at night unless i'm packing. too many places to hide and not well lit at all. I have a beater, and i wont ever park my car in that area just because it has such a high damage/theft/vandalizing potential.

Sucks for you, but really... fool me once.. blah blah blah.

Back in December, my red Honda Civic hatchback was stolen, and was never recovered. Insurance took forever to pay out, and since it was an old car, I got next to nothing. During that time, I went out and bought another Honda Civic hatchback, and now this one was stolen.

It happened on Dudley Street, between 10:30PM on 3/22 and 9:30AM on 3/23. It's a white 1994 Honda Civic Si hatchback, NJ plate U17ALV. The only thing that is really of value on the car are the wheels, which are nothing special, but I just had 4 new tires installed yesterday. The car had an auto lock on it, which locks the clutch pedal from being pushed down (so the car won't start or drive), and also the common ground block was pulled out (killing power to the computer and fuel pump). The car was either stolen by a professional that knew what they were doing, or was towed away. It was reported to the JCPD, but I don't have high hopes, as my first Civic was never recovered.

If anyone has any info on my car, please let me know. I miss it dearly already. I love the litrle Civics, but if I don't get this one back, I'm done with them, probably forever.

Thanks for reading.
