Re: 2 reported killed in car crash in Downtown Jersey City

Horrible.

My fiance works on Grand St, and told me about this on her way home last night. I will keep the victims in my prayers.

So it was the passenger of the cab and a pedestrian that was killed? Driver of the SUV, was he drunk, or just stupid?

I read somewhere that it took some time before JCFD and paramedics arrived on the scene. Can any eye witnesses attest to that? Being that both JCFD and the hospital are on Grand St, one would think they'd get there pretty quick.

dfpm, my car was one of them! I checked the towing receipt and it says my car was picked up from 82 Laidlaw. It was sometime early April. Been going all over the place trying to get my car back. Finally got the release and the detective to take me to the car. It's in one of their own indoor impound lots, along with 5 or 6 other Civics that were picked up from the crime scene at the same time. I did see the photos of the raid, and they had more car parts than a typical shop. I will be getting my car back, as well as some of the parts that were stripped off. I'm assuming owners of the other cars involved have been notified and are doing the same.

It was the sheriff's office that got this. They mentioned something about the their running a chop shop out of the house, or somewhere along those lines. Happy that they got him and that I'm getting my car back, even though it's not totally in 1 piece.

They found my car!!! It's in a few pieces though. Details coming later. Trying to search for the news article. Supposedly there's some stolen car ring thing going on, and my car was one of the ones recovered. Sheriff's office had a warrant to the house/garage my car was found at. This was sometime earlier this month, in Jersey City (Heights).

If anyone can find a news article about this, please link it here.

Thank you.

Does their school year run like a normal grade school's school year? September to June?

Thanks! Just read that 2007 article. I'm not suprised at that outcome.

I called the Phillips St. place. The guy there wasn't as bad as I thought it would have been, after reading that 2007 article. He asked for the last 6 digits of the VIN of my car (only had the recent car's VIN in front of me). He looked it up in his computer, and said it's not been recovered in Jersey City. I will check back every so often.

Thanks so much for your help. If anything else comes to mind, or if by any chance anyone sees the car roaming around on the streets, or somewhere collecting parking tickets, please post here.

Anyone have pricing? I looked at the website, but it doesn't mention anything other than the $75 application fee.

I have a toddler that I'm considering sending to this school.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Just called Dente, and neither of my cars ended up there (they stole 2 from me in 3 months). They said all recovered cars in Newark end up there, except for the ones recovered in the east district. Any idea where cars recovered there may end up?

Also, does anyone know where they tow Jersey City recovered vehicles to? Seems like these lot people are nicer to deal with than police.

Called the police and let them know about the camera and video. They weren't really interested. They said the detectives know where all the cameras and businesses are, and if there's a video recorded, they will have it.

Anyone know of a number I can call in Newark to see if my car ended up there? I called JCPD and asked if the car has been recovered, and they told me if it has, I will get a call. This scares me, because a friend of mine, years back, had a car (Civic) stolen from him, and it was in an impound lot for 2 years, collecting fees. There was nothing left of that car, so he just left it there. He never got a call, even though police was informed that it was there, 2 years before he found it.

The tire shop I used was in south jersey, and I did not drive up in that car when I had the tires mounted.

A local business had cameras pointing at the street. I viewed the video yesterday, but didn't show much. The camera was pointed at the street in front of the car. You can clearly see when I parked the car, and when it was taken. What can't clearly be seen, but seen nonetheless, was one individual, walking up to the car, and a minute and a half later, drove off with it, then turned the headlights on. The car was taken less than 3 hours after I parked it. It took him only 1.5 minutes to break into the car, get the car started, get around the anti theft stuff and drive off. I was shocked at the video.

Only other thing I saw in the video was a minivan (dodge caravan/Plymouth voyager) driving by 5 to 10 mins before this, driving somewhat slow. May or may not have been related.

Theif that took the car, if you're reading this, keep the wheels and leave me the car. It serves you no purpose.

Stolen Honda Civic (yes, another one)

Back in December, my red Honda Civic hatchback was stolen, and was never recovered. Insurance took forever to pay out, and since it was an old car, I got next to nothing. During that time, I went out and bought another Honda Civic hatchback, and now this one was stolen.

It happened on Dudley Street, between 10:30PM on 3/22 and 9:30AM on 3/23. It's a white 1994 Honda Civic Si hatchback, NJ plate U17ALV. The only thing that is really of value on the car are the wheels, which are nothing special, but I just had 4 new tires installed yesterday. The car had an auto lock on it, which locks the clutch pedal from being pushed down (so the car won't start or drive), and also the common ground block was pulled out (killing power to the computer and fuel pump). The car was either stolen by a professional that knew what they were doing, or was towed away. It was reported to the JCPD, but I don't have high hopes, as my first Civic was never recovered.

If anyone has any info on my car, please let me know. I miss it dearly already. I love the litrle Civics, but if I don't get this one back, I'm done with them, probably forever.

Thanks for reading.

To the OP, I live in Paulus Hook as well, very close to where you are. They stole my whole car, from Van Vorst St., by the marina. This was a month ago.

1994 Honda Civic Si hatchback. It's the one the kids like. I wouldn't be suprised if your stolen wheels are on my stolen car right now, haha.

I was all excited when I saw this post. Called the JCPD right away, and they told me that mine is still active on the stolen list, which means it wasn't recovered. I will tell my friend to check to see if it's his.

Thanks anyway.

Oh wow. Just this morning, I read a new article about a Lobbyist in Washington DC that died, and the pictures look similar. Her BMW X5's front burnt the same way.

Do X5's have a history of catching fire? Could be totally unrelated.

It's been a few weeks, and still nothing. Ionia the cops aren't looking for the car. Was just hoping that it would turn up, whether it be in 1 piece or not. Would like to get the car back if it's still in ok condition, so I can move on from this. Insurance company say they need to wait before anything happens. Leaves me in a bad position, because I don't have the car right now, and don't have money from them to buy a replacement.

My car was parked downstairs from where I live. I parked it there myself, and I don't drink.

Another acquaintance had their car stolen from him the other day here in Jersey City, out of a church parking lot by 2 men. Caught on tape. Hopefully something comes out of it. That was a Civic also.

I filed one as soon as the car was missing, last Thursday.

I was told that I would be called within 24 hours after it's recovered, but I also know people that had recovered cars sitting in impound for weeks before they got a call.

Called the police daily since it happened, and nothing has shown up. Hopefully it's found soon, no matter what kind of condition it may be in.

sandman, because it's a Civic, I did have some kind of comprehensive insurance on it, but it has a $500 deductible. There were a few break-ins on the block these past few months (glass still on the floor). I guess a $500 deductible is better than taking a total loss on it.

croft, I will drive by those areas, and check to see if there's any tickets against the car. The car didn't really have any expensive parts on it. If anything, it just looked like any other old Civic. Crappy thing is that I just had the bodywork done on it, so it's totally rust free.

Is there a site or number to call to see if a car has been recovered? I called the police department this afternoon, and they told me I will get a call if the car shows up. I find this not the case, because I've had friends that had to "find" their recovered cars.

Not a good day. My civic was stolen from where I live sometime today (12/16). Car was parked on Van Vorst St, between Dudley and Essex, alongside the marina. It's a red 1994 Honda Civic Si hatchback, NJ plate M56AGK. It has a broken muffler, so it makes a good bit of noise.

Reported it to the police, and was told a lot of times, thieves steal the car and park it for a few days before chopping it up. Hopefully it's found before too much damage is done.

If anyone sees this car anywhere, please contact me. This was a project car for my daughter and I. She is devistated that the car is gone.

Thanks for the space. Happy Holidays.
