Getting a higher count would be great for state and federal aid, grants and the like. But once again, Healy doesn't see the bigger picture. Many of the reasons Jersey City was undercounted apply to Newark as well. It is extremely unlikely he's going to find 30,000 people here who weren't counted and even less likely Newark doesn't have a number as large as ours they could add to their total.

ugh. does this mean everyone in the city has to resign and go door to door to retally the residents? theres no way its close to beating newark (in terms of population) so whats the point.

What are you talking about? Crystal Point is at least 75% sold as is Trump. 13 more units were sold at Trump last month. Drive by at night and the lights are on in apartments from the bottom to the Penthouses. What buildings are largely empty? However, I agree that we are hugely undercounted by the census.

Lakewood grew from 60K to 92K, damn, and that was during the worse housing market from 2007 to 2010..must have been on steriods before 2 double zero 7.

I would guess that most renters do not even open their census forms. But many downtown condo buildings are still largely empty. Combine this with the fact that Healy often sees double and it is tough to get an accurate headcount here.

Jersey City plans to appeal Census figures as "too low," hopes to pass Newark as state's largest city Friday, February 04, 2011 Vying to overtake Newark as the state's biggest municipality, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy plans to appeal Census data released yesterday that has his city stuck in second place. http://www.nj.com/news/jjournal/jerse ... 29678631864530.xml&coll=3 Its actually a good bet the city was undercounted. Many of the new high rises didn't initially get new census forms, so they had much less time to respond.

This is pretty decent i guess. We did still grow but it surely wasn't what i expected. I figured we would reach 260,000 by this census, so i overshot by 13k, I have to admit i didn't expect Newark to grow but that is just as good. Just sucks we wont be the biggest city still
 . I think we could have reached the number above if some people did stay. Our population grew but we still had a good amount of people leaving the city. WE need more entertainment in this city. I honestly think that will help keep people to stay here, and would help people overlook the negatives of this city. Not that we will just forget about it, just that the positive of having much entertainment would out weigh the negatives. Still, im happy we grew but 3k short of being in the 250,00 categories.......DAMN!!!!! That's like getting a 97 on a test lol

Jersey City's census data keeps us at the second largest city in the state, but grew at a faster rate than Newark (277,000)
