are radar guns and "stop sticks" legal for citizens to own and use?

I'm just spitballing here....

8th and Monmouth is another problem corner. When driving up 8th, there is almost always a car parked so close to the curb that you have to be halfway out before knowing if it is clear. and on top of that the people coming down Monmouth just had a stop sign the previous short block, so even when you see a car coming it hard to gauge how fast they're going to speed up. It was just a matter of time. and I'm sure this isn't the first there.

How about the new lane shift on Grand Street by the hospital?

I wish it would stand out more, as if the blinking sign weren't enough. So many times during the morning rush, I'll be in the right lane and the vehicle in the left lane almost drives right into me.

Looking at the damage on the cars, it would appear the SUV was going down 8th, then hit that sedan. Stop signs only mean one thing. Well, unless you drive around here. Then they mean close to nothing.

How fast were these people driving? I mean WTF is wrong with people. Once again a real tragedy was averted only because no one was walking on this sidewalk. It's gonna take a child being wiped out for the cops to take action. The driver that went through the fence walked away. The guy in the other car was on a stretcher getting his neck braced. He looked like an off-duty fireman.

Considering the car accident that just happened on the corner of 8th and Monmouth, maybe it should have been left there.

When they first put the digital Your Speed sign up at Monmouth and 7th, it was facing so the people coming down 7th saw it. This made sense to me cause in the AM people fly down that street as a short cut to the tunnel, and they don't have the stop sign. Plus you have the school on the next block. It was there for maybe half a day.

Then they moved it, as mentioned above, to face where the people coming down monmouth, who had to stop at the stop sign, saw their speed. Even if they are speeders at that point they're not going to hit an unlawful speed at that point. Also for the next half a day, the sign wasn't working right and would blink random numbers when there wasn't any cars around. "31....23....29..."
My wife says I'm a fast walker but I don't think I'm quite that fast.

Put it somewhere where it may make a difference.

HEY!

Guess what's been moved 2 blocks further north to a corner without a stop sign?

C'mon guess!

First time I saw it last week, I'm like, "How dumb, It's at a stop sign!"

I do like how the numbers jump all over..... 5 mph, 16, 2, 23..... it's like a big slot machine.

It's placed at a stop sign. We go by there everyday and can't get the "Your Speed Is"...to get past 5 mph. Why? Because it's at a STOP SIGN. I'd like to know what city worker thought that was a brilliant idea. Our tax dollars smart at work.

Who do we call to give the tip that perhaps it's not the wisest place to enlighten people about their speed?

Yeah, the sign should be at either 6th, or 8th.

Anyway, in light of Police budget cuts, how about this...

since the police are supposed to patrol traffic as well,

Just. sit. at. any. of. these. trouble. intersections. and. give. out. tickets. all. day. long. and. make. your. 8. million. back. rather. than. some. lame. radar. that. everyone. knows. is. a. joke.

end of story.

But, I know it. will. never. happen.

I agree its placed in a what appears to be a dumb location. I have also seen it placed opposite MacNair on Coles, after a stop sign.

That intersection on Monmouth though is probably one of the most dangerous downtown. It's the only stop sign on Monmouth north of Newark Ave, and with traffic around the funeral home and church during the day and New Music Box Cafe at night, perhaps it's in roughly the right area. A block or two South would be a much better site though imo.

There must have been an accident or a complaint made at that intersection. That's the standard MO here in JC. The usual shrug o' the shoulders "here ya go" response by our city after a horrible accident or a flurry of complaints. God forbid they actually write some speeding tickets. I can always tell where a serious accident has been when I see that stupid flashing sign.
