the entrance to Lincoln Park on Belmont Ave. is one of those areas where you don't need to move the car. I work in Manhattan and normally don't have a need to drive during the week, so usually I just park up there and leave the car there all week. There are signs for alternate side parking, but it doesn't happen.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.. I'm going to check out the few places I've been told don't have street cleaning. I'm also considering "Keep your Weekend" services. If they charge $10 to move, it'll only be $40 for the week (2 cars, each need to be moved twice).. Much less than parking at a lot..

Thanks again!!!

Thanks Robin.. Would you happen to know specifically of any these spots?

I've used Keep Your Weekend's services and can vouch for Tara. She charges $10 per move, and if you park your car on a side street, you will only need to have your car moved twice in one week. So this is a much cheaper alternative than parking your car in a lot.

I have never used them nor know anything about them other than that this is a local business serving local people.

I never heard of a week long holiday they are going on a vacation. Maybe you can use a senior citizen's driveway that is not being used anymore, the plus side is that having a car in a vacant driveway will give the property a sense of security.

Is there a friend or neighbor in the neighborhood that you can just give $20 or $25 to move your car for you?

I know of a couple that used to live in downtown Jersey City. They recently moved to Manhattan. However they left their car parked over on the streets behind BJ's (Morgan St., Bay St., Warren St.). Evidently you can park there for extended periods of time without having to move it for street cleaning.

Simon's Parking Lot at Grove & Montgomery would probably cut you a deal for longer-term parking. But try to do better than $7/day might be ambitious.

Because of this same problem, we usually just park our car in the Avistar lot by Newark Airport...I believe it is like $8 a day...although this would not work for you if you aren't leaving from Newark Airport.

Avistar also has a discount for AAA members.

OP. 7 dollars is a decent deal. Let us know what you end up doing.

My wife and I moved to downtown JC a few months ago and park our cars on the street (zone 1). We're going on vacation next week but we're not sure what to do with our cars. Obviously if we keep them on the street we'll get ticketed when they do street cleaning. The cheapest lots near us are $7 a day, we don't really want to pay $100 for the week just to park our cars. We don't know anyone in the area with off-street parking who we'd be able to leave the cars with. I called the parking authority and although last week the person I spoke with said we'd be able to get a "courtesy" for the week, when I called back today and spoke with a supervisor he said that they only offer those for a day.

Does anyone know of a cheaper way to do this? Is there a street in zone 1 without street cleaning, or is there an inexpensive place where we can park for a week?

Any suggestions would be welcome..

Thanks!
