This is bananas!! I live smack dab in the middle of both shoot-outs... about 2-3 block radius from both spots... I love my gritty neighborhood, but its getting hot in the kitchen... and yes on foot patrols would help, like I said I have seen a dramatic increase in police presence since the previous, now it is going to be ten times worse... The cops are pissed off and just hemming anyone up, Sunday night they had a whole row of kids lined up and patted down against the church if you live in the neighborhood you would see that they are trying... and if you don't well, now you know you can't expect a miracle overnight, the sad thing is that this is what it takes to get their attention turned to these areas I bet you my right pinky that by the end of the summer things will go back to normal..

What most of you are forgetting is that the zero tolerance laws were not just about writing a few tickets. It was implemented because it helped cops net a lot of people who already had outstanding warrants for much more serious crimes. People who mug people for a living are much more likely to jump a turnstile than you or I. Criminals are consistently stupid. They will speed up and down our streets with a trunk full of drugs or guns and not think twice about it. That is why cops must make more traffic stops, arrest fare-jumpers etc.

Did I say Kerik? No. READ. And as for national trends, then why the hell didn't Jersey City or Newark or any of these cities catch up with it? This is why I can't stand the liberal way of thinking. You all think that Obama can save the country, yet Guiliani wasn't responsibile for NY's resurgence. And if I spelled that word wrong, too f-ing bad.

I'm just tired of hearing how close this crap is coming to my neighborhood - a neighborhood that I'm paying good money to live in and was told that is safe. TommyC is totally spot-on - if this crime comes any closer - everybody is going to move out and the waterfront will just become an extensive of the ghetto.

Yeah but you can't deny the constant ticketing for turnstile jumpers, and public urination etc. Zero tolerance. Jeez, I got pulled over once on 5th avenue by a cop on FOOT! They don't put up with any BS. It worked, and it works.

In retrospect, Guiliani's success was less about anything he did and a lot more about national trends, a roaring economic expansion, and if you believe Levitt and Dubner, the legalization of abortion in New York State three years before Roe Vs. Wade.

Bernie Kerik is training guard dogs in Franklin Lakes. He can be here in like 40 minutes.

Real estate Downtown is way too expensive for this kind of crap to be tolerated. If it doesn't get better, JC as a whole will receed.

And please, I don't want to hear non-Downtowners jump down my throat.

Oh yeah, Newark is doing so well, on Monday there were multiple shoot outs in Newark that resulted in 3 dead and seven wounded.

So there were multiple locations where shots were fired. Every time that happens police and bystanders are put at risk. This is wholly unacceptable. My guess is the powers that be are going to sandbag these stories as it starts to paint a really bad picture of a banana republic that's oh 3 miles from the biggest/safest city in the country.

WTF is it going to take to employ some of the strategies mentioned that have been PROVEN to work: cops on beat, broken windows theory, serious jailtime for violent offenses, etc.

Anyone who is so far gone that they'd shoot at police will never be rehabilitated back into society, sorry no chance.

If you shoot at a cop, you should be shot.

Over and out.

This is Defintiely true a have a lot of aquanitences of mine that shouldnt be let out and there on the street....it is such bull....this is why I've distanced my self from all of these people...there has been no evolvement from a majority of the people i grew up with.

Sadly enough maybe its time to bring back firing squads...because keeping them in jail will only costs us taxpayers more money or raise taxes.

At some point during the chase, they must've come south on Grand St. I was awakened by the sirens. looking out my window a little while later, I could clearly see that the police had located a handgun laying near the rear wheel of a car, parked on the east side of the street in front of 669 Grand. It was definitely a semi-automatic type of handgun, not a revolver.

I'm not an expert of Law Enforcement by any means, but I used to live in the Philly area, and in the 80's they did the "officers on the beat" thing, and kicked some ass to help out.

Also, I'm sure it's been stated on here many times, but try NYC's broken windows theory method? Why can't we try any of these? Whatever they are doing isn't working. I'm not trying to be a D%#@, but I am starting to get a lot more worried.

Is Sandbar even open on Mondays?

I'll tell you what, at this rate Newark is getting better press than JC.

Yes. Newark has been faring pretty well since Booker took office, and particularly since he brought in Garry McCarthy from NYPD.

They robbed someone on Montgomery and Grove, were chased into the Sandbar parking lot where they fired at officers. Then were chased to Communipaw where they also fired at officers.

TV had the incident ranging from Communipaw near the HS to the Sand Bar with multiple shots fired at several points in the pursuit. In any event the newspeople broadcast from in front of the store held up several weeks ago during a council meeting. Wild West City East.

How many "shots at police crimes" is it going to take before people realize that things are out of control?

In light of what happened it seems that some serious show of force is necessary. Clearly the existing system is not working at all...

Communipaw between Crescent and Park, that is across the street from Crown Fried Chicken and down the block from the West District police station.

Exactly. They were maybe a block from the West District. Lincoln High School is right there, too.

The report I saw on News 12 said it was a person robbed on the street.

Started out as a robbery at Grove and Montgomery. Then chase ensued. Fast action by police.
