Paulus Hook Park - the four corners of Washington and Grand.

Colgate Center Park - next to Essex Street light rail stop between Clermont Cove and Liberty Terrace.

Liberty State Park - Includes the patch of land between Morris Canal Little and Big Basins, south of Sugar House and Liberty Terrace. This is where I think the OP is referring to.

The OP is referring to Peninsula Park which is at the end of Washington across from Portside.

The ghetto playground has a sign that calls it "Paulus Hook Park" but I think it is now referred to as Colgate Park.

"I wish Jersey City would be frank about possible hours off-leash dogs could run around".

They are very frank: the answer is never.

? 90-16. Use of leash in public places.
[Amended 10-24-2007 by Ord. No. 07-168]
Except in an area designated as a dog run by the City of Jersey City Division of Parks and Forestry with official signage erected clearly indicating such dog run, no person who owns, keeps or harbors any dog shall suffer or permit it to be upon the public streets or in any of the public places of the city unless such dog is accompanied by a responsible person and is securely confined and controlled by one adequate leash not more than six feet long.

http://www.municode.com/Resources/gateway.asp?pid=16093&sid=30

BTW, "Paulus Hook Park" is located at Grand and Washington St as someone else correctly else pointed out. the sign is prominently displayed on the north-west corner of the park.

I totally agree. I don't care what breed you have, how adorable and obedient your dog is, or any other trait that you as the owner tout as why your dog is deserving of being off-leash. It's not all about you and your dog! Dogs CAN and WILL be unpredictable at times. Whether it is with other people, or other dogs. I have a small dog who is always on a leash. I have had multiple incidences with dogs who are off-leash but much larger, who truly are just playing, but are SO big that it intimidates my dog. WTF? WHY does your dog HAVE to be off-leash? Are you as the owner physically incapable of holding onto a leash? Are you THAT arrogant that you can't get over how cool and intimidating your dog is off -leash ,to just deal with walking him ON his leash? Will your dog be MAD at you if you put him on his leash? There is virtually no good reason why an owner should elect to walk his/her dog without a leash. Period. Dog park runs should be the ONLY place. And not until they are in the fenced in part.

The park that the OP is writing about is on south end of Washington Street. I wish Jersey City would be frank about possible hours off-leash dogs could run around, closely attended by their people.

I'm sure many of you have walked by this sign in the corners of Grand and Washington Streets. Don't Even Think of Playing HERE!

They will start the playground right after the DEP destroys it with their plan that they tried to squeeze by the community with out us noticing. That was a fun public information meeting!

That little pocket park? People actually let their dogs off-leash there? It's puny! And also? ILLEGAL!

Healy said so.

Whatever its called - leash your g*damn dog - enough already. Obey the law. Grow up. If you can handle leashing the dog - don't get one.

bottom line. if you use the park, whether you bring your dog there or each lunch there or whatever the f you do there, you should leave the park in the exact same condition as it was when you got there. but for the most park, people are awful, lazy, trashy, and just downright disgusting.

maybe harsher punishment would help. litter = lose a finger.

I would much rather deal with unleashed dogs and their poop then high school students who throw beer bottles up in the air because they are still in pre-operational stage of development and are extremely amused with how gravity works. I really wish they weren't allowed out during lunch...and out of their mothers wombs.

When you enter the park, there's a big sign prominently displayed indicating the name, "Liberty State Park" as well as it's rules. No where will you find it referred to as "Paulus Hook Park".

It's not only a name, but a very pertinent detail as yer bitchin' about the the "state park police" enforcing dog leash rules when it's actually the JCPD enforcing such local ordinance. (you start off with a factually incorrect statement, "People call the state park police to complain about dogs off leash".)

The JCPD are doing so for a very good reason. There has been recently 4 dog bitings in Paulus Hook, with the most recent one happening inside Liberty State Park.

This is yet another variation on that old chestnut, "JC has bigger problems than dog poop on the sidewalks," a limpdick argument invariably made by irresponsible pet owners whenever someone has the stones to complain about their rude behavior.

The city may have a lot of other problems, but I believe they need to step in and enforce leash laws as well because obviously dog owners live in their own world. Case and point, the woman that was mauled by a dog a few months ago.

Your dog may be "so sweet" or "would never hurt anyone," but what it comes down to is, they are still animals. Not everyone loves your dog as much as you do. Keep it on a freaking leash. I don't want to be chased by your dog when running through the park. End of story. GET A LIFE.

If you want to be specific about the name of the park its called the Morris Canal extension of Liberty State Park. Thank you for your asshat input.

If you care so much, at least refer to the park by it's correct name: Liberty State Park.

"because other people break the law, she/he thinks its ok for her/him to do it..."

I'm asking for a clean park and rules & enforcment that apply to both dogs and people. Thanks for taking this out of context.

Enjoy your day!

How about you take your dog to one of the many dog parks in the downtown and not let your dog run around off leash before you start complaining about all the things everyone else is doing?

Sorry about your dogs, but you honestly believe that dogs are a problem that the park police need regulate? My point was that there are bigger concerns than dogs. If I call in daily to report the cops about the drinking/garbage do you think they would react the same? Probably not cause they haven't done anything as of yet.

"the cops should frequent it more so you don't break the law..."

Dogs > Graffitti, garbage, vandalism, etc.

True story.

If its illegal to have your dog off the leash - then just don't do it. Its annoying to dog owners - like myself - who have to pull your dog off of mine because its not held back. And believe me, the dogs are ALWAYS off the leash there - the cops should frequent it more so you don't break the law...

People call the state park police to complain about dogs off leash.... This park has bigger issues than dogs.

What about the massive crowd of people who drink and smoke at the public park right next to your children. Or the litter of plastic beer cups, throw up, tampons/condoms, empty beer and liquor bottles, grafitti, and late night drug use. Why would someone throw the park trash cans out onto the sandy area of the park... Wheres the maturity in that. Now the park is short 1 can.

There is such a double standard on rules at the park where state cops will come to give tickets for off lease dog play (at the request of concerned citizens), but not 10 yards away people are getting drunk in honor of Memorial Day.
