Voting's done for $1 million prize
Monday, April 20, 2009 Didn't vote on-line for Jersey City's Liberty Humane Society to win a $1 million makeover? Well, time's up. The contest, run by the Secaucus-based www.ZooToo.com , ended yesterday, but the vote won't be tallied until August, an official with the Jersey City animal shelter said yesterday. Today (Sunday April 19th) is the last day to vote WE CAN STILL PULL THIS OUT!!!!! John H has invited you to "WE CAN STILL PULL THIS OUT!!!!!". Event details: Even with a curent placing of 8th, I don't think that placing 3rd is beyond the realm of possibility. We have enough people aligned with Liberty Humane Society to make this happen. There is only one issue we are having.. PARTICIPATION. Assuming all that are currently participating are voting the maximum 10 times a day, we only have 544 people voting. Considering our affiliate count is over 2,000 our current vote count is not impressive. I know with our passion for helping homeless pets, we can do better.  About the prizes Thousands of pet lovers are logging on to Zootoo to support shelters in their community. One shelter will win a renovation valued at up to One Million Dollars* - while 19 others will be receiving cash prizes totaling $195,000 to be used for shelter improvements. The $195,000 will be divided as follows: First Runner Up Prize: One award of $50,000 will be given to the Shelter that receives the 2nd highest number of public votes from America. Second Runner Up Prize: One award of $25,000 will be given to the Shelter that receives the 3rd highest number of public votes from America. Finalist Prizes: The seven Finalists who are not selected as the Makeover Winner, 1st Runner Up, or 2nd Runner Up will receive $10,000 each. Semifinalist Prizes: The ten Semifinalists that are not selected as Finalists will receive $5,000 each. I know it looks bad, but LHS can still win. If everyone who is voting now each recruits 8 more people who vote every day 10x per day, we can win! (Assuming the #1 shelter keeps receiving votes at the same rate)
So put a link as your facebook status, recruit snoozing coworkers, whatever you have to do!!

We all knew that the amazing, hard working shelters in this contest would provide for some stiff competition. The current standings prove just that. When Liberty Humane Society jumped into this contest, we had low expectations. But we all gave it the ole college try and amazingly enough, we clawed our way to make the top 20 out of almost 3,000 shelters nationwide. While waiting for the results for the finals, we knew we were among some amazing shelters but still kept positive. Low and behold, we were named a finalist in this years contest. Even as a shelter one of the lowest amount of affiliates, we have overcome insurmountable odds. With this in mind, I ask that all of you continue to vote, solicit votes from your friends, family and neighbors and simply keep your positive attitude that has gotten us this far. REMINDER - please vote again today for Liberty Humane Society (10 times, and you can do it in a row, you don't need to log off and log in again).
For those who haven't done it yet, it only takes about 4 minutes to vote 10 times. Plus maybe an extra 2 minutes to create a username, password and add a photo if you haven't done that yet. This place truly deserves the BIG makeover!! Imagine how many more animals could get a second chance. VOTE today (and everyday this week) and please ask your friends to do the same.

Local pet shelter finalist for million $ makeover
Monday, April 13, 2009 By JENNIFER KIM JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Paws and tails are crossed for a million-dollar makeover at Jersey City's Liberty Humane Society. The animal shelter was recently notified by Zootoo.com - a Secaucus-based on-line social networking site for animal and pet lovers - that it is one of 10 shelters in the nation in the running to win a million-dollar facelift. The makeover could include an on-site veterinarian clinic and indoor and outdoor cat and dog cages, organizers said. Located in a former Department of Public Works garage, the Liberty Humane Society has a long list of needs. "Our main goal would be to get a new spayed and neutered clinic up and running," said Allison Sillence, the shelter's volunteer and events coordinator. "We also don't really have a room where future owners can meet the animal they are adopting. The entire floor of the shelter needs to be replaced but in general we just need more space at the shelter," Sillence added. The top 10 finalists were chosen out of an initial list of 3,000 based on need, according to Zootoo staff. The big winner will be chosen by the public, they said. "We're the only New Jersey shelter in the top ten," Sillence said. "Zootoo is our neighbor and I think they are a good local business, as are we. So I hope we can work together and utilize what they have to offer." Sillence encourages people to vote on-line at www.zootoo.com for the Liberty Humane Society. They can vote up to 10 times a day. Polling will be from noon today to midnight on Sunday. For more information, visit www.libertyhumane.org.
