rajah,

Thanks for the lowdown on your soon-to-open store and I look forward to hearing more when you start your Grand Opening JCList thread.

Good luck to you!

UrbanRenewal,

Yup, Daily Dose Rx is a shop that a friend and I are opening up. We're going to be carrying mostly New Era fitteds, and "streetwear" brands like "crooks & castles, rocksmith, vices of our virtues, lemar & dauley, as well as our own instore brand. Prices on the tees are probably going to start around $25.

I guess you can say we're catering to the younger crowd and the young at heart. As far as sneakers, we're going to have vintage models and harder to find nikes, jordans, and whatever else we can get our hands on.

As well as it being a shop, it's also going to be a design studio. So if anyone needs logo work, graphics, or anything design related, you can come to us.

Target date for the shop opening is the 16th, not the 15th like it says on the banner. Something came up where we had to push it back a day. Definitely come through though. We're going to have a grand opening party and all that good stuff to celebrate the occasion. I'll post a thread when the shop is closer to completion. Thanks.

Minnie,

Appreciate the compliment. Have a good one.

Great Marow Deli photos, rajah! I just checked out your yoRAJAH Blog too.

From these photos featured in your blog, I believe I recognized that new shop, Daily Dose, opening a few doors down from Marow Deli on August 15th (or at least that's the opening date posted in Daily Dose's store windows).

Is that your store? I'm guessing it is your place, and I hope I am not stealing your thunder by mentioning it here first on JCList!

I recommend starting a new JCList thread about it to get the word out that you're opening up a shop here in the 'hood.

Assuming it's your store, what items and brands do you plan on carrying? I've heard it's going to be mainly hats and sneakers.

If so, is it mostly collectible and high-end stuff? Or is it geared toward a mainstream consumer? Also, what will your prices be like?

I took some pics of the shop for my blog a few days ago. Very friendly people and they make great sandwiches.

- Soda
- Paper Towels
- Cold Drinks (Like Iced Tea, Snapple, etc.)
- Candy
- Cold Cuts and Marinated Meats (Boar's Head)
- Toilet Paper
- Gum
- Snack Cakes (Along the Lines of Hostess and Tastykake)

That's all I can remember for the moment. But if I think of anything else, I'll post it.

It's like a nicer, cleaner version of A-1 Deli on Grove Street without the claustrophobia-inducing lines or the panhandling out front (yet). It's also everything I wished Moe's Deli on Newark Ave. would be (but isn't).

I am rooting for them and I really hope they do well.

Well thank you (UrbanRenewal) for your forensic analysis of the new deli!!! Just for you I'm going to visit the new deli today and will make a purchase!

I'm more excited about this place opening than any other place in the neighborhood! Living on Jersey & York, it was such a pain to have to trek to the Pathmark for late night milk or juice.

So far I've tried a chicken salad sandwich & a coffee - both were decent & very inexpensive. The guy working there was super-friendly (not sure if it was the owner or not?).

I hope it stays nice & clean & doesn't turn into another A-1 Deli.

This is very true.

I was also wondering about the panhandlers. I'm being optimistic and hoping they won't show up.

Lastly, I went there late on the 19th and they were closed.

I haven't tried Marow Deli yet, but I am not getting my hopes up. This is owned by "the best sandwich maker from A-1 Deli" ??? The best sandwich maker at A-1 Deli would be the worst sandwich maker at any respectable deli.

Not for nothin', but the Marow Deli even LOOKS like the A-1 deli.

This is like my worst deli nightmare...for years I have wished that A-1 would be replaced with a real deli, and the opposite has occured...a SECOND A-1 Deli has opened!

On a side note, I walked through Paulus Hook yesterday and saw the Harborside Deli. How is that place?

I wonder how long it will take for the panhandlers to start hanging around outside like they do at Paradise 24/7

I just had a sandwich from here for lunch and WOW!

The guy immediately remembered me, shook my hand and said he appreciated me coming by.

The sandwich was delicious I think it was a grilled chicken vinaigrette. I say I think because I let him choose what to make, because I tend to order the same thing every time if not.

He even gave me a small discount and apologized for making me walk the extra few blocks to get to him.

Apparently he went into business with a partner and opened up his own place. It's great & a bit out of the way of my normal route, but I'll definitely stop by for now on.

Glad to hear you dig it. Not to get this thread too off topic, but do you know if any of the hotels in Downtown Jersey City offer decent breakfast or brunch buffets?

I have only been to one hotel in Jersey City and that is the Hyatt. Went to a party in one of the suites and drank at the bar a few times. Not sure if they offer breakfast or brunch. If you find someplace like that in downtown JC, let me know. Otherwise, I suggest going to Newark. It is a short drive and definitely worth it for the amazingly fresh food you get. Not downtown JC atmosphere, but the food was great!

My bf is a big ex-Navy muscular football jock that can put away an entire slab of bacon, a dozen eggs, a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk. I've never seen him so happy eating...food that is.

I saw that new place too when I was heading down that block a few days ago. Have you tried their sandwiches yet? I briefly looked a the menu and they sounded good. But if I'm already down that way and I'm hungry, I'm usually more tempted to grab Ibby's or Medina or Shadman.

I was told yesterday by a friend of mine that one of the guys that works there is, the same guy who used to make the best Sandwiches at A1 Deli.

He was the only one I would allow to make a sandwich for me, to the point where I would walk in and let him choose what I was having for lunch.

I was wondering why I haven't seen him at A1 deli in while, which is why I haven't eaten from there in a while.

I'll walk the extra 2 blocks to get lunch for now on!

Brownstone Diner and Pancake Factory, at the corner of Jersey Avenue and Grand Street, is open from 6AM until 11PM seven days a week.

But sadly it's not open 24 hours (but I predict it will be someday). Have you ever been there? It's great!

Lord have mercy -- I had no idea Moe's was that new of a place. Wow. As the Newark Avenue corridor cleans itself up and continues to transform, I hope that place does too.

You may recognize the owner from the deli in the Mack Cali building on Grove next to the GNC store. He has been a long time employee there and has now moved on to open this on his own.Nice guy and a welcome addition. The line that forms outside Wonder Bagel is proof that people want good food if you make it.

In my initial post, I got the spelling of the deli's name wrong because I only heard the owner pronounce it.

When I just walked past the place again I noticed the lettering at the very top of the window panes.

It's called Marow Deli (not Marrow Deli). More to come in a sec...
