I doubt that these kids were from the immediate area, otherwise they'd be phenomenally stupid.

Bunch of jerkoffs decide to target someone who's lost. What is that? What is the sense in what they did. I become more and more disgusted with these ignorant out of control punks. I see these kind of jackasses all the time. No heart at all.

I hope they're all caught and have to pay heavily for their disgusting and senseless behavior.

Police arriving 17 minutes after the ambulance sounds like typical NYPD behavior.

I?ve been asking the city to install cameras for years and keep being told the monies are not available. The reduction in crime, both major and minor from strategically placed monitors would more than justify their initial expense and provide some peace of mind for the community.

No one else is taking issue with a 17 minute response time from the PD. Where were they coming from? Edgewater?

Hopefully they can find these kids soon and smack some sense into them. Glad to hear that our neighbors came to the guy's defense, though. Props to them. And pray the guy will recover well.

Teens (at least two were females and two were males - Hispanic) threw bottles in the middle of third street between Jersey and Erie and were wearing white t-shirts. That happened at about 11:15 PM or so... could be a connection... cameras at some intersections or business security cameras may have caught some of their images.

Anyone else on third street see this?

They continued down the street past St. Mary's toward Manila.

I walked through there with my groceries maybe 30 minutes beforehand.

Late tonight, there were parents playing with their children, people out walking their dogs, a couple taking a stroll -- all the normal stuff.

I feel horrible for the guy. Being lost is never a good feeling, but to then be assaulted by a gang of teens in a seemingly safe area? That's horrendous!

I hope they catch the thugs and throw the book at them.

I really hope he will be okay.

There a lot of great teen kids in this community and this just tarnishes the reputation of them.

At about 11:00pm tonight, a group of approximately 10 teens including 3 girls viciously beat and kicked a young Bayonne man looking for the light rail, almost to death in Van Vorst Park.

Neighbors witnessing the beating chased them away and called the police immediately?an ambulance showed up 15 minutes later followed by the police 17 minutes after that. The neighbors said the group of assailants were wearing white t-shirts.

Please be vigilant.
