Not a secret. Last time I read a number it was something like $775 million. My memory is a big fuzzy on the exact number.

According to page 10 of the 2017 User Friendly Budget, total gross debt is a hair under 750 MM, while the net debt is 455 MM.

Seriously, you can put away the tinfoil hat. Municipal debt is not a secret. It is, in fact, readily available information if you care to seek it out.

Jersey City credit rating gets another boost

By Patrick Villanova | The Jersey Journal
on April 07, 2017 at 11:45 AM, updated April 07, 2017 at 11:50 AM

Jersey City's credit rating for General Obligation debt continues to improve, following a three-level increase from A- to AA- by The Fitch Group, city officials announced.

The upgrade comes on the heel of the announcement two weeks ago that municipal taxes would remain stable for a fourth consecutive year under the recentlyintroduced city budget.
