Another reason to reject it in is that if it is built, it will become a nightmare getting in LSP on the south side. I can't imagine the backup on the turnpike.

Regardless of whether or not the idea of expanding casinos is appropriate or a good idea, the proposed complex is a sprawling Frankenstein nightmare. Beyond the super stylized aerial shots of the tower, take a close look at the rendering of the base of the building. There are ridiculous water falls, ambiguous blocks of greenery pasted on the side of the building, balconies and what I'm assuming are shops/restaurants jutting out at all sorts of weird angles. There's no cohesiveness, no sense of scale or proportion. Fullop is constantly talking about building up the skyline to increase the profile of the city, increase our sense of civic pride etc. Nothing is more at odds with that idea than building a 90-story mega-casino literally right behind the statue of liberty. What a complete disgrace.

What a crock of shit.

The only reason I am for casinos is because they typically employ seniors when other places do not.

Received flyers in the mail saying that NO public funds will be used for this project - yeah, when the Easter Bunny comes and offers to sell the Brooklyn bridge to you for $1 that will happen.

Pro-casino signs coming down in Jersey City almost as fast as they go up

Pro-casino signs are being fixated to light posts and utility poles in Jersey City, which is prohibited by the city.

Caitlin Mota | The Jersey Journal
November 02, 2016

JERSEY CITY -- With Election Day approaching, hundreds of politically connected signs have been popping up on public property citywide while residents are tasked with deciding whether casino expansion should be permitted.

The Jersey City Department of Public Works has taken down roughly 1,500 campaigns signs promoting Board of Education candidates and casino expansion, spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.

A city ordinance prohibits any form of advertisement from being displayed on public property, which includes utility poles and light posts.

While residents across the country will be voting for the next president and in various local races, New Jersey residents will be deciding whether or not casino gaming should be expanded outside of Atlantic City.

Many of the campaign signs being taken down by the city encourage voters to support gaming expansion and promote pro-gaming group OUR Turn NJ, though the group suspended its advertising campaign in September.

"On Nov. 8th vote yes on question #1. Vote yes for jobs," the signs read, which display an OUR Turn JC logo.

"Although OUR Turn NJ suspended the paid media component of its campaign, a variety of grassroots activities are continuing to encourage a 'yes' vote," said Chris Donnelly, spokesman for the organization.

But the 2-foot-by-3-foot signs also say in fine print that they are paid for by OUR Turn NJ. Donnelly could not be reached for further comment on the signs.

Morrill said the DPW is keeping track of how many hours have been spent discarding campaign signs. The city plans to issues "applicable penalties" after Election Day, she said.

Voters will likely get the final say in November.

Casino expansion has been a major discussion among Jersey City residents and political leaders in recent years, spearheaded locally by Reebok founder Paul Fireman, an organizer behind OUR Turn NJ. His vision for expanded gaming in the state includes a luxury resort on the outskirts of Liberty State Park, near his ultra-exclusive Liberty National golf course.

Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, who once supported allowing casinos in North Jersey, plans to vote against expansion because "Trenton hasn't provided enough information on impact, taxes, and details," Morrill told The Jersey Journal.

Fulop previously told The Jersey Journal he will oppose city zoning permits for Fireman's Liberty Landing if a majority Jersey City residents vote in opposition of expansion.

But Assemblyman Raj Mukherji, D-Jersey City, said he plans to vote in favor of casino expansion, calling his decision a "two-fold answer.

"I believe that to keep New Jersey's gaming industry viable and keep revenues from going out of state gaming should be expanded outside of Atlantic City," the assemblyman told The Jersey Journal.

Mukherji plans to see how local residents vote on Nov. 8 to determine if a casino in Jersey City is the right choice.

Casino expansion advocates say the new resorts would create jobs and generate revenue that is currently being sent to casinos in New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
