It could also mean that they endured suffering or that someone they loved (mother) died while they were incarcerated (eg mother died from a broken heart).
Either way, happy the guy was just punched in the face and no more harm was done to him.

Actually, the guy should be happy that he walked away with just a punch in the face. There is nothing good about being brave and stupid. Who knows? The theif could have had a gun, knife, acid,....

That is not what that tattoo means, unless the person flashes their headlights three times in front of the bathroom mirror with the lights off.

Anthony J. Machcinski/The Jersey Journal

A Jersey City man who stood up to a would-be robber was punched in the face early this morning, reports state.

The 19-year-old Palisade Avenue resident said he was walking into his home around 4:30 a.m. today when he was approached by a man about 5-feet-9-inches tall with a teardrop tattoo on his left eye approached him, reports state.

The man said to him, "Do you have a phone I can borrow," and after the victim said he didn't, the man threatened the victim and said, "Gimme all your s--," reports state.

The man then brandished a handgun and told him to hand over his possessions again, reports state. The victim again refused, telling the man, "No, you don't even have bullets in that gun, you would have shot me by now," reports state.

The robber punched the victim in the left side of his face and fled the scene on foot north on Palisade Avenue.

Anyone with information is asked to call (201) 547-JAIL.
