Thats funny. I vote to fix our mistakes first then maybe if there is time, money or both we can go to bat for them as well. I'll have to read the House vote on who went for what.

Here's a quick quick cut and paste of a couple related statistics for your amusement:

1) House Democrats recently made a small attempt at trying to find savings in the federal budget by cutting $120 million from the Pentagon?s $320 million budget for military bands. However, House Republicans yesterday approved a measure to strip that provision from the defense appropriations bill.
Rep. John Carter (R-TX), the measure?s sponsor, said yesterday on the House floor that trimming the band budget was a ?tragedy? because military bands ?are an integral part to the patriotism that keeps our soldiers hearts beating fast.?

2) The National Endowment for the Arts requests a budget of $154.255 million for FY 2013.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that you believe that the purpose of creating and maintaining military is to provide us with props for some celebrations, right?

And from there you arrive at the logical conclusion that using the aforementioned military for a combat deployment is a distraction from its true purpose.

No. It just seems odd that we are sending money to other countries when is should be spent here first. Whould you spend money on someone else before you or your own family ?

Yeah, but you're supposed to feel good about the military! problems? what problems? everything's perfect in the armed forces, look at Fleet Week, isn't that beautiful?, what's wrong with you?

The U.S. military has officially canceled New York City Fleet Week this year, due to budget cuts brought on by sequestration.

"Unfortunately, there will be no Navy ships in New York this year for Fleet Week and no additional Sailors or Marines," Beth Baker, Fleet Week Director of Public Affairs, said in a statement. "We look forward to the opportunity to participate in future Fleet Weeks and we greatly appreciate the city's patience and understanding during these unusual times. Thank you NYC for what you do for our service men and women each and every day. Hope to see you next year!"

Hosted nearly every year since 1984, Fleet Week welcomes some 6,000 Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen into New York City to celebrate their service.

Last year, New Yorkers watched a flotilla of tall ships glide past the Statue of Liberty, and the Blue Angels fly past the Empire State Building. Katy Perry also performed for servicemen and servicewomen along the Brooklyn waterfront.

The Navy usually spends between $7 million and $10 million on the event, which also is estimated to generate some $20 million in business for New York City.
