I contacted the court first thing was subsequently notified I was issued a summons last month for something called "242-7" - Okay. What is 242-7? The definition is IMO extremely broad. The offense (per the court) could have been anything from illegal parking, excessive music, honking, etc. Further, the complaint has no mention of the specific infraction. How can that be? How can I fight the offense - when I don't know what I supposedly did wrong? It all seems so arbitrary.

The thread mentions a $79 fee for this infraction. apparently the fee has increased - significantly - its now $150

Has anyone encountered this? Is it worth the time and effort to go to court?

Thanks

I had a similar issue - likely the ticket blew off my windshield. I think they show a copy of the original ticket if you pay online.

@ JCF - Although I don't think your comment was intended for me - I thought I would clarify - my car does not have any time of alarm.

I will address this to anyone who parks their car for the night in a location where they themselves can not hear their car alarm if it goes off: What the hell are you thinking? This is the most selfish thing you could do. Quite often these alarms go off intermittently all night long. Does anyone really think that its fair to balance some sort of unproven dubious idea that it will protect your car, against the near certainty that you will be depriving scores of people of their sleep?

Hmm - excessive noise complaint. We have a guy whose radio blasts at 6am on Sunday morning, I guess when he is coming home from work. If two or more neighbors filed a joint complaint, would the police issue a 242-7 or does the offense have to be witnessed by a cop?

Traffic and Engineering were overly ambitious at that intersection. There is a two-lane left turn on to Second St. coming off Washington heading south. When you actually turn on to Second St the parking signs contradict the painted lanes showing that the far right lane is part of the left turn traffic flow. So the turning cars immediately have to merge together because cars are parked in the active travel lane (like your car.) The intersection should be fixed, most likely losing some parking spaces.

Take pics, check the signs. Take it to court and fight the ticket

Send in an affidavit with some pictures of the area and a description of the issue, along with an explanation of why you don't think it merits you coming into court to waste the judge's and court's time. If it's clear enough, chances are it will be dismissed without requiring you to come in. I've had several tickets dismissed over the years in Newark and Jersey City this way.

You can request a plea-by-mail from the court.

Parking tickets do not result in points. It should say how much the ticket is for.

Elsewhere on the web it says 242-7 means "motor vehicle nuisance" which sounds like a catch-all and more like a police complaint than a parking bureau one.

Perhaps it was a bicycle lane or a fire lane?

Folks,

I got a weird ticket today 242-7 motor vehicle nuisance and in the description it says- Parked in the marked Lane.

This was on 2nd street,Washington Blvd East side just in front of porto fino bldg.

Parking signs says that you can park from the lamp post by way of arrow mark.

I parked after the sign board. So as per sign board I parked in right area.

I don't understand this issue of parked in marked lane. There is no red curb neither is it within 25ft from pedestrian crossing.

The lane is a two way lane.

I took some pics of where the car is parked and I always parked car here for two years there and I didn't get any ticket like this.

Can anyone shed on this?
Will I be able to contend this ticket and if yes will my pictures be enough.

Does this ticket have any points and how much is charges for this.

thanks in advance.
