i was walking down the west side of manhattan when i saw these clouds.

Within five minutes I saw two aggressive homeless people ask me for money, then moments later i noticed this loud preacher on the corner going.."REPENT! REPENT!!" I swear that plus the alien clouds was like some bad Tom Cruise movie.

otnemem , a little politcally correct sarcasm... it was great scientific mumbo jumbo that a couple others caught on too... came to me after I read a news story about how wearing less clothes will reduce the carbon foot print... it sounds good though; I like the the other latin description for the cloud formations.

I can't believe that I didn't bother to look out at the sky just then.

And I'm glad to know that the scientific name for these cloud formations is Latin for Boobies.

I've never seen anything like it. My first clue was my window lit up red like a technicolor camera gone wild. I looked out and up and was these huge red "droplet" clouds...indeed not unlike big red boobies from a Krumm drawn comic book. Better yet, HUGE heavy, red cotton balls hanging down from the weight of tons of moisture. I got a few snaps that are still on the card but I cannot imagine they will do justice to that my eyes saw. I am SO happy I was near the window when the world went RED...a special moment. Nuts, my pictures are nice, really got the RED... but I just found out my PHOTOBUCKET has expired from lack of use...drat. Fuddle, fiddle, fiddle... Let's try this one: [img][/img] but this one, though less clear got the color best: [img][/img] Alas the flash fired inadvertantly on the second shot and reflected back from the window...oh well, there goes the Pulitzer!

Those were Mammatus Clouds that usually appear during adverse weather conditions in warm weather. Pilots are taught to avoid this type of cloud that are indicative of very severe storms.

Was an awesome sight and I can't recall ever seeing them in New Jersey.

Not a single google result for "bubbulous nimbi."

The clouds seen last evening are rare. Known as "bubbulous nimbi" they are the result of an implosion in "cumulo nimbus" clouds that can't sustain internal barometric pressures from hot/cold thermal forces and stress out to the bubble shape much like when bubbles are blown from a jar.

The sky caught my eye about 8:55 last night out my kitchen window... very strange but interesting lighting effect in the sky.

I figured it was probably global warming... they say as the world warms up it is supposed to naturally reduce the rainfall in the atmosphere because the rising water lines will saturate the atmosphere with water vapor.

100% humidity thus reduces the natural rain fall turning areas like Lincoln Park into massive deserts, but great water front property in JC.

i thought it looked eerily red from my living room. i didnt think to stop and take a picture though.. i bet it looked pretty sick along the waterfront
