The Jersey City Police Department's bomb squad blew up a briefcase this afternoon that was left unattended.

However, I do agree with you in wishing everyone would act like it was the day after 9/11, I felt like I was in a caring community instead of a suspicious one.

Sounds like you took pre-school too serious.

Hell no I'm not living every day in constant fear of being blown up. I'm also not spending my time being ultra suspicious of everyone I see.

If I notice a guy walk up drop a backpack and walk away I'll call someone but spending my time 'suspect and vigilant' is simply not how I want to spend my life.

The Boston Marathon Bombing: Keep Calm and Carry On. Refuse to be terrorized.

That's my approach to life now and was also the same after 9/11.

Seriously. Be reasonable, there's no need to report every stupid ream of paper you see lying around.

Who reported a 'stupid ream of paper'? No one. And in the wake of the three persons killed the day before yesterday in Boston, you should shut up.
Oh I'm sorry, what was it then? A package? What the hell does that mean? Why was it suspicious? Do you know what it is? Should I be freaking out and calling the cops over ever box and bag and garbage can I see around town? "In the wake of three persons killed the day before yesterday in Boston" doesn't mean we should leave common sense behind and lead our police on wild goose chases for every dumb thing we see.

actually, if it's in a high traffic area and it looks like it is out of place, yes.

Call it the price of a live training exercise. Technicians must learn to deal with fear and uncertainty when it might be an actual device.

That doesn't mean you should ignore something that may seem suspicious if you see it.

Obviously not.
