I don't get the big deal about Taqueria. It's average at best.

lol they'll put orale's kitchen out of business if they open a restaurant there. if its just a catering arm, that'd be a bit sad, but i certainly wouldn't begrudge them the spot.

Orale is not what I consider a taqueria - isn't a taqueria an inexpensive Mexican fastfood restaurant? Also, is this a branch of the place at Grove and Grand or is the word Taqueria being used generically? As someone who lives north of Newark (Nornew?) I hope this is a decent place to pick up a quick dinner or snack. Truth be told, I've never even considered Soul Flavor as a place to eat, now I am having digestors remorse.

What's up with that?

Places are successful and expand? I love it when mom and pops become small local or regional chains (i.e. 3-6 locations, like wonder bagel). You get the personality and local flavor but with the consistency and convenient multiple locations of a chain.

Also that would be 3 Taquerias, they have a LES location.

two Taquerias? grove & grand where else other than the LES one?

Was it Sandy or bad table turnover times that closed this place?

a sign has been put up on the soul flavors window saying "coming soon: taqueria downtown catering co."

http://www.seeninjerseycity.com/2013/10/sign-at-soul-flavors.html

Anyone have any information about this? Would it be the same owners as the taqueria on grove?

Total bummer, I'm gonna miss that food. I'll have to find an excuse to get some catering done.

Terrible news! Great home-cooked food. A real loss to the downtown.

I believe Edwards was for sale well before Sandy. The owner wants to retire.

I just hope that should he sell, the new owners maintain the business.

Sad to see Soul Flavors go as well.

It looks like Edwards might be on it's way out as well... It's for sale http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/239 ... NJ-07302/2110518100_zpid/

They took a long time to come back after Sandy. I hope Sandy isn't causing this too :(

i know nothing about operating a restaurant, but i'm a little surprised they say sandy was the cause for them closing. i understand that inventory is quite expensive, but were they really running their margins that close to make them close? did any other businesses downtown close permanently after the storm? even edward's which was entirely submerged finally got back on their feet during the summer. i'm interested in a more informed perspective.

If i remember correctly the owner of this joint was screaming that THEY should get some type of bailout to help with the super storm sandy clean up, after their insurance co refuse to pay for the entire thing. I think the owners were dumb to think that the government would bail them out when they knew the spot was in a flood zone. Oh well! NEXT!!!

From their Facebook page - an unfortunate casualty of Sandy:

OCTOBER 27TH 2013

After over 6 years of trading in Jersey City, it is with great sadness that Chef Wayne, Jill and Shawn are informing you of the closure of Soul Flavors.

When Superstorm Sandy hit last year, we lost all our food in the kitchen with the power outage, along with the whole of our inventory stored in the basement refrigerators and freezers and store cupboards due to the flooding. Although we have tried very hard for the last 11 months to get back on our feet, unfortunately we have not managed to do so.

But don?t worry! Chef Wayne will still be cooking his wonderful food and if you would like to keep up with his news or order catering please let us know on INFO@SOULFLAVORS.COM and we would be delighted to hear from you.

Thank you so very much for being our loyal patrons, we have appreciated your business and could not have come this far without you all.
