I had a break-in three weeks ago. 8th st b/t Monmouth and Coles. I live on the second floor and the burglar apparently was buzzed into the building. I've even been guilty of letting in strangers, never again. Let us be vigilant.

When we lived on 108th st in a large 6 floor building, the door buzzer was disabled. Someone could buzz you, but you had to go down to let them in. A PITA, but a crime stopper. It definitely put a crimp in the business of the drug dealer in the next door apt.

If I thought my neighbors were stupid enough to just buzz in anyone who said "delivery", I'd be at that door strike with a tube of crazy glue.

The UPS and post office are used a lot as is simply saying "delivery". But believe it or not the most common one seems to be simply saying "me". You would be surprised how often people get buzzed in just saying that, their is almost always at least one resident that will buzz in someone assuming the "me" is a roommate, friend or family member.

Live near grove street and I can tell you I have been hearing people walking on our roof and I am on top floor. We need to spread the word more and get this out in the neighborhood.

I think this was exactly the case, cops even said the same thing regarding the other break-ins being buzzer entry related. Over the last few years we've had new tenants moving in and the general assumption from the long standing tenants is that they don't give two shits about general tenant conduct/responsibilities. Back door is very unlikely since it triple locked, with a second basement door that can only be unlocked from the outside.

From what I heard the perps gained access simply by pressing buzzers till some sucker let them in. How stupid can people be just buzzing anyone into their building?

I heard that there may be a photo/video of one of the perps. How do we get that photo published? These kinds of crimes are usually the same people hitting an area again and again.

This is the second time I'm hearing of an increase in apartment break-ins. There have also been many car break ins in the area.

What block is your building located on?

Just wanted to spread the word that the area is getting hot again. Our apartment building was hit yesterday. Thankfully, our unit survived an attempted break-in, but unfortunately our wonderful neighbor across the way wasn't as lucky. According to police, as relayed to us by our neighbor, the assailants were either buzzed in or otherwise easily able to enter through the building's main entrance, since no damage was found at the front door. The police mentioned that several other homes in the area have been hit, along with a recent mugging. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be vigilant about who comes and goes into your buildings! Our units were on the 3rd floor and where the only ones affected. Don't buzz anyone in that you don't personally know. If you need to walk down a few flight of stairs to verify who someone is, DO IT! Don't leave doors propped open so you can run out and grab something from your car and not need your apartment keys.

As the saying goes, "common sense goes a long way."

As the other saying goes, "why is it called common sense if it isn't all that common?"
