I like Healy and I like Fulop -- which might seem odd to some people on here -- do you think Fulop could win city wide for mayor?
Steve, I know you read this site, are you gonna run -- and I don't mean the 26m?

After my initial skepticism of yet another Jersey City politician, I must say that I am most impressed by this guy.
Steve, let me know when you start the run for mayor -- I will gladly work on the campaign. -M

I agree with you all: it is a worthy cause, Steven Fulop deserves kudos for bringing this to our attention, for the hard work of preparing, must less running a marathon, and for all that he does to help us in Ward E and beyond.
My donation is small, but like several have said, every little bit helps. Go Steven Fulop!

I made my personal donation last night. It is a VERY worthy cause. You have to give him credit. For each mile of the marathon he had to endure hundreds of hours of grueling training.

and he's always so calm and listens to your concerns. As a natural hothead, I really admire that! I'll donate as soon as I get home from work (with chocolate stained fingers)

The 2006 NYC marathon is fast approaching -- this Sunday. If you have considered making a donation, get it out of the way now.
The direct link for donations is: https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid=12017 Hudson County Child Abuse Prevention Center New York City Marathon

I have no idea how Steve Fulop does it. He has his regular job, nightly city council or neighborhood meetings, grad school at Columbia, and now hours of daily training at Synergy. I admire him, but boy does he make me feel lazy.

Yes, I think he's good for downtown JC, I could only give $26, but every little bit helps.

Thanks for posting this.
I just donated $131 ($5/mile) to support Steve's effort. He makes it very simple to donate, in pretty much any amount -- http://www.stevenfulop.com/ Note: I do not work for Steve, don't even live in his district, but I admire his willingness to run a marathon to help abused kids.

Councilman runs race for nonprofit
Monday, October 23, 2006 By KEN THORBOURNE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Downtown Jersey City Councilman Steve Fulop is running like a man on a mission - and for a good cause. The 29-year-old Citigroup trader is competing in the Nov. 5 New York Marathon and in the process, raising money for the Hudson County Child Abuse Prevention Center, a Jersey City-based nonprofit that helps prevent the sexual, physical, and emotional abuse of kids. "They do terrific work for children who can't convey the difficult position they're in," Fulop said about the center. "I just wanted to help." Fulop has spent the past few weeks collecting pledges from individuals and groups for the 26.2-mile run. His goal is to raise between $12,000 and $20,000 - as of last week, he'd already raised $10,000, he said. Fulop, who served six months in Iraq as a U.S. Marine, has never run a marathon before. He said he's been waking up every morning at 5 to run about six miles, and does longer distances on weekends. "The wear and tear on your knees and ankles is pretty difficult," he said. "When you get to those higher levels, your body just starts to hurt." Peter Herbst, the center's executive director, quipped that Fulop's fund-raising effort was "wonderful - as long as he (Fulop) is doing the running."
