In no particular order:
1 - My rent - a similar brownstone apartment near a park in NYC would cost me at least twice as much. 2 - That parking isn't so bad 3- Taqueria's pork tacos and flan and byob sangria 4- That Simple, Hamilton Park Ale House, White Star Bar, Isabella's and Basic are all within steps of my place. 5- Drinking is cheaper here than in NYC 6- That I can live without a car if I needed to 7- The PATH - I find it cleaner and faster and more reliable than when I had to use the subway daily 8- Dorrian's Pu Pu Platter and Red Ale 9- That I can be in nice suburban towns like Montclair in 15-20 minutes. 10- That JC is in New Jersey, which is on a state level much more progressive than NY State is on many levels. 11- The Waterfront and walkway 12- The Powerhouse - it's beautiful, while it lasts 13- Marco & Pepe's brunch 14- Having Newport Mall so close 15- The historical buildings

1. The Grove Street Crew that I hang with.
2. The MAJESTIK and the ridiculous alcohol consumption therein. 3. Chillin' on the stoop with the Fil-Mex guys. 4. My Dominican neighbors and their legendary BBQ skillz. 5. Rey Rey, the guy on my street who can fix any vehicle known to man. 6. Oscar at La Isla Nueva and his empanadas. 7. Van Vorst Park 8. No Car. 9. Hudson Camera 10. The Grove Street Pimp 11. Ibby's Falafel 12. My ridiculously hot wife who refuses to live in the suburbs.

Hmm.
No particular order: 35 minute commute door to door (though I admit I wish people on PATH had a better understanding of personal space) My beautiful apartment kicks a$$ and I'd be in a much smaller, not as nice space in Hoboken or the city My room-mate. OK, so she'll never see this but whatever. Good takeout/delivery options Proximity to LSP Proximity to EWR Waterfront Random fireworks shows that set off every car alarm in PH. $1.00/month parking

Two posters have mentioned the Majestic, myself included. I love the Majestic, I only wish I didn't ring up an $80+ tab every time I go there.

Positively Thinking...
* Actually being able to afford a lovely old house, right plunk across the river from New York City. * The beauty of the Loew's Jersey, and the classic film shows offered there. * Incredibly cool neighbors, who actually look out for one another. * Parmigiana House, and their unbelievably tasty marinara sauce. * The kooky mix of disappointment and staunch pride that the old-timers have for this city and the way it's run. * My own backyard, with no neighborhood association to tell me what to do with it. * The Light Rail - yessir, it's wonderful. * The PATH system - it ain't so bad, either. Much cleaner and more efficient than a good deal of of the NYC subway.

Sometimes you don't know how much you miss things until you no longer have them. Here's my list
1. Bragging that the Statue of Liberty is in Jersey City. 2. Lincoln Park and it's amazing fountain. 3. The diversity of the people and cultures. 4. Not having to drive unless I want to. 5. Good friends. 6. Proximity to Manhattan and the Village. 7. The Merchant. 8. Rita and Joes (yum!!) 9. Unbelievably, the traffic (seriously these folks here can't drive). 10. The political scene is better than any telenovela on Univision!! 11. Mulu Baltena. 12. Lee Sims Chocolates. These are in no particular order.

1. ferry/water taxi (i wish this ran all week, all day every day!)
2. being able to walk to anywhere i need to go (even though i am a driving to work commuter) 3. great parks i can walk to like morris canal park (affectionately called the peninsula) and lsp 4. pet friendly, generally laid back atmosphere 5. taqueria 6. brownstone 7. all of those little "outta the way" places i want to check out, like the record store on brunswick, the fabric store on bergen and montgomery, white manna (yeah, even a diehard weird NJer like me hasn't been) 8. my patio 9. the powerhouse 10. diversity. i had been missing it since i moved from yonkers to the mountains :) 11. la rustique (the most life affirming margherita pie, if you desire such a thing) 12. lee's continental produce 13. the path these are in no particular order :)

Jersey City is stunningly beautiful, there are tons of cool restaurants, the people (including people from radically different demographic slices) are usually friendly, and I can walk everywhere. My real reaction to the car window smashing problem is, "Why would people who live downtown even own cars? Why don't you just join Zipcar?"
If all the Paulus Hook and Newport people who use their cars less than twice a month joined Zipcar, Zipcar could probably put 100 cars here and we could eliminate a few thousand giant paperweights from Jersey City parking garages.

1. the lightrail - its very cute.
2. diversity - i had to go to williamsburg this weekend and almost threw up from all the trustofarians. 3. my commute. the path may have its issues - but atleast i dont have to hear 'this f train will be going local' on a weekend and think 'omg thats 14 stops... i'm f'ed' 4. my mortgage - pay less that what i did in rent and got more squarefootage than anywhere else in the same proximity to nyc. 5. my neighbors - maybe a little ruff around the edges, but we all know eachother and say hi eachother. i like that. 6. a yard - ok so i share it with other people in the building... but its a big yard!
