No wonder they needed a big location in the Heights for baking:
https://jerseydigs.com/choc-o-pain-cafe-hudson-tea-hoboken-opening/

In 2 years they expand in Boston/DC, in 4 years in San Fran...

Or are willing to pay for good things...as I am but not as frequent just like anything else in life. I hope she survives, time will surely tell. I wish her luck.

Just adding to my reply: I stopped in there today for the first time in the new Heights location, a bit snug but tolerable. Had my daily espresso fix, not bad and the price was adequate compared to neighboring places but if I linked that with a pastry and including tax it would have cost me $6 bucks...ouch ! When I'm in the mood and can't resist their excellent almond croissants I'll probably indulge myself.

That's pretty stupid. We all make choices of what we're willing to pay for, you can't fault somoene for not buying a luxury item. I don't buy baked sweets at all, nor do I usually buy coffee when I can make a great cup at home in minutes with a $25 Aeropress. When I do buy it out, it's a $1.50 espresso at a Spanish place, not a $5 coffee milkshake. Am I hurting the neighborhood because I don't buy barista made coffee?

I like Choc O Pain I do go there from time to time I guess I will have to get used to the prices. I just don't see how my opinion on price means we have to settle for junk though.

We love Rumbas on Central - but will check out Noches De Colombia -- btw the staff at Rumbas has become pretty English friendly over the years - and most of the servers are still there.

He does have a point in regards to the prices. You don't have a critical mass of high income people in the Heights yet for high end specialty food. The places I see doing well serve food at a lower price than you would find in Manhattan, Hoboken, etc.

An example: Noches De Colombia which opened relatively recently is always packed. Given the portions and quality, the place is a really good deal.

There is a Gelato place farther North on Central Ave. Good product, but expensive when you look at what you get for $5+. The place is always empty when I walk by.

Side note: Giving a Thumb-Up to De Columbia. So far we have had two good dinners from them. My only criticism of the place is it is hard to find a server that speaks English. The staff swapped servers on us when they found out my wife (though she looks it) isn't from South or Central America. Trying to order over the phone is a lost cause for non Spanish speakers.

Obviously, you are not their primary target customer.

Neither were the customers that patronized the Made With Love bakery...remember ?

I would argue that the taste and calories per dollar you get there is one of the best deal though.. Clemence unique choc-o-pain aux amandes is definitely something to consider prior (or post) the Newport half for example. I am glad they found a better location in the Heights to bake and supply more of Hudson County!

Wish them good luck, their petit queen (sp) tarts are worthwhile diet killers.

And kudos for venturing away from DTJC.

The Jersey Journal

French bakery Choc O Pain recently opened a new location in Jersey City.

Owner Clemence Danko moved to Hoboken from France with her husband in 2009 and was disappointed with the bakery options, which sparked an interest for her to start her own bakery.

Danko attended culinary school in New York City before opening her first location in Hoboken in 2012 to bring a taste of France to the West side of the Hudson. Following the opening of that location, she brought that same taste to Jersey City on Jersey Avenue in 2013.

After almost four years, Danko has now decided to open a bakery in the Jersey City Heights at 330-332 Palisade Ave. Scroll through the gallery above for a look at the bakery's ribbon-cutting.
