At one time the turnpike extension was used as parking for teachers especially Ferris High School.

Many if not most of these ideas have been floated through City Hall, but there were always complications (not necessarily insurmountnable) - for example: NJ Tpk owns that land and/or has an easement, liability when things fall from the turnpike, safety in certain areas, the weird waterfall that happens due to NJ Tpk drainage issues, etc. And now the lead paint thing. Point being, it's well known that the land could be used in a cool way but it's not simple.

Ironically, the hipsters have now all aged out of being hip and moved into parenthood. If they were to play bocce, it would be in earnest.
Whoa.

I hope you recovered from that wave of embarrassment on my behalf, Tony, but I?m not making a generalization about millennials. I?m making a generalization about hipsterism?a subculture for which an affinity for a classic, old-man?s game like bocce would be quite expected.

Man I cannot wait until the media gives everyone's dad a new buzzword to describe people in their 20's. Can hipster as a a description just be retired?? I get embarrassed on behalf of the person using it because they come off sounding like they are out of touch and 80 years old.

What a great and needed idea, free parking for Downtown residents. I can give away free cars again!

They should put basketball courts under the Tpk and remove the one in Hamilton Park. That BB court in HP brings nothing but excessive litter and noise especially late at night in the warmer months. Replace it with a bocce court.

Parking would be nice. I always thought this should be in the city hall parking lot but what about food trucks?

yes, it has, been, tennis courts under Mayor Schundler and again there was an effort for a skate park under Mayor Healy.
given the current situation with lead paints chips raining down from the turnpike onto playgrounds, parks (and schools and more ) .... good luck with this.

does any one know if the city/state has looked into turning some of the areas the nj turnpike extension into recreational areas.
they did something like this under parts of the west side highway, adjacent to the fabulous hudson river park.
