Another 200+ violations issued to Jersey City mega-landlord

By Caitlin Mota | The Jersey Journal
on April 04, 2017 at 5:50 PM, updated April 04, 2017 at 6:35 PM

JERSEY CITY -- A Clifton-based management company already in hot water with the city and many of its residents was slapped with another 200 plus violations, officials said.

The housing and fire code violations against Trendy Management are in addition to dozens of violations issued last week at two of the company's properties.

After "Trendy" took over, I decided to e-mail them on repairs needed in my apartment. Never heard back, which solidified the fact it was just a rebrand.

Many neighbors have gone to the city for housing issues, however they then threaten to evict you if you say anything. They jack up rents way past the rent control rates after they "renovate" units.

Really not sure how the city allows them to do any sort of business within city limits anymore

I'm surprised to hear they're still in business, rebranding or no. About 7 years ago, I was on a condo board and we interviewed management companies, including Riveredge. Very good presentation. However, I personally checked references for all the potential companies and Riveredge got horrible reviews from references they gave us. I usually don't pay much heed to references given by a company since they're generally not reliable. I find my own references to check. Same deal when hiring an employee. But that wasn't necessary for this company.
No board that does due diligence would even think of hiring them.

JERSEY CITY -- A Clifton-based property management company has been slapped with more than 100 code violations for two of its Jersey City properties just days after residents demanded the poor living conditions are addressed.

On Sunday more than 200 people gathered with Jersey City Together, a multi-faith social justice group, seeking improvements at River Edge Management properties. The company recently rebranded as Trendy Management.

More trouble for management company hit with dozens of fire code violations last year?

By Ron Zeitlinger | The Jersey Journal
on January 28, 2016 at 2:18 PM

JERSEY CITY -- A Clifton-based building management company that was smacked with dozens of fire code violations after a Garfield Avenue fire in June could face new fines after a fire this morning on Kennedy Boulevard.

City fire officials said that fire alarms at 1991 Kennedy Boulevard, one of many multi-unit buildings in the city owned by River Edge Management, were not functional when firefighters responded there at 3 a.m.

I don't know how you survived as long as you did. One week with no power at this time of year? You gotta be kidding me. I endured it for three days after Hurricane Sandy and that was bad enough.
I know it's all easier said than done, but I'd go over to the management company offices, or to the owner's home, in person and raising some serious hell if that were the case.

Overall it's not that bad. CO2 and fire detectors have independent power source.
The only bad thing is that as lease holder I let my roommate down.
It really affects her life and school - she cannot study at home, no cooking gas, and no hot water.
She does not normally mind the beggars around our building but now she feels extremely insecure.

The second apartment has been unoccupied for months.

- I paid him $700 (for last 10 months of electricity) 3 days ago
- He lied all this time about paying the balance with PSEG and turning the power on.
- He doesn't want to go to PSEG with me to face the Manager who can turn the power on.
- He does not allow me to pay it myself ($2k).
- I shot the video at PSEG as rep going through building's account and telling me that nobody paid it and account has no name on it (sent it to him today).
- Today is one week without power

On any email addressed to Ari I get one answer "It was turned on at 11AM, I do not know what happened and why you still do not have power"

Wow. This is CRAZY. A whole week without power!? That's definitely not legal, nor morally right. Follow the advice of jerseymom.

Is the entire building without power?

This guy is breaking the law. Report him to the city ASAP.

And document EVERYTHING.

Good news, AlexB. You might want to post your method of contact so others with the same problems have a similar way of reaching them effectively.

These guys are all over the press and net with bad reviews. How the city continues to allow management companies like this to operate in the city with so many violations is troubling. I would think that would add to municipal culpability if something tragic happened at one of these locations.

Glad you're getting some help.

Thank you so much for your replies!
I figured the way to reach the owners directly.
After a couple of angry emails things started moving.
I have appointment with PSEG tomorrow morning.

Good luck getting any answers from them. They also manage my building and are very absent in any responses. From my understanding, they are a frequent flyer in court, and usually are sided against.

Price of the building just doubled over the last 2 years and it's worth a cool few million now, they want it for better purposes.

Other articles about River Edge Management and their antics have shown an attorney by the name of Jeffrey Unger in Clifton as their registered agent. He may also be the primary owner, I don't know. But at least now you know the name of a human being associated with this shady company.
