We found Monty tonight! He was in an underground garage behind a spare tire. So exhausted and relieved. Thank you all so much for the well-wishes and tips.
And an extra special thank you to our wonderful, selfless neighbor Asli, who helped us comb the neighborhood for Monty. I am happy to be reminded of how many great people there are in our community. Monty seems to be no worse for the wear, despite his high-dive, but we'll be taking him to the vet to make sure. Thanks again for all the support.

Thanks for the tips about VVP. My husband checked that area yesterday but didn't see anything and after speaking with Liberty Humane and someone who looks after the local strays, we think it is more likely that he is somewhere closer to our apartment. Please keep the tips coming and thanks everyone for your concern!

Yesterday evening, on our bicycles and we saw a black cat on Erie St, between York and Montgomery right by VVP. About 7:30 to 8pm.

Have you contacted Liberty Humane Society? Any animals brought in by Jersey City Animal Control are brought there. I would recommend emailing them a picture of MOnty with as many details as possible about time, location, markings etc...

I'm having trouble uploading a photo of Monty to jclist but here's a link to his picture on Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/CanineCanteen ... 9/812744622144643/?type=1 He's almost completely black with the exception of a small white patch on his chest and a larger white patch on his belly. The patch on his belly is usually hidden unless he rolls over. He is pretty friendly and might come if called but perhaps not if he is scared. Thank you all for your help and kind thoughts!

I've seen a young black cat in Van Vorst Park neighborhood (on York Street). I don't know if it had a white spot. But I saw it last night. Could it be the missing kitty?
It wasn't friendly though. As I approached, it ran away (in fact, I thought that it was a Feral cat.

I'm so sorry about your missing kitty, what a nightmare! Can you post a picture? There are a few tuxedo type cats in my neighborhood, if I knew the markings I could look out for yours specifically.

I really hope you find Monty.
This is the same reason why i leave my windows shut or maybe a 1" crack. I once saw my cat sitting on the ledge nonchalantly and when I moved closer to him, someone (house guest) had lifted the entire screen up so no barrier existed. If the cat jumped, it would have been 5 floors.... Quote:

Our cat broke through a window screen and fell from our fourth story window on the corner of Essex and Washington, while we were at work today. He is not near our building, we're very worried and are hoping that someone may have seen him or taken him to animal control or the vet. We've called the local vets with no luck. He is a 10 lb, 2 year old, black cat with white patches on his chest and belly. He's friendly and answers to Monty. He is microchipped.
