I'm downtown, with a good view of Manhattan, but the reception via my antenna is pretty poor - I get channnels 5, 7 and a bunch of independents. Is it my antenna (I think I paid 15 bucks for it)? Should I invest in a better one?

I have antennae that look like mousepads. Work pretty well. I get the networks and some others including two movie channels. The antenna facing west gets different stations than the one facing east (east is better), so you might want to move the TV. Biggest hassle is that I've yet to find a TV listing that includes all the channels I pick up
check out tvguide schedule for over the air channels

I've got Verizon Fios Internet and HBO only. cut my bill in half, and I don't miss cable at all.

I do get the local channels, in HD, and a Roku box rounds out the options nicely.

We cut the chord about 8 months ago, and now has Comcast internet only. Service only went out once - when the line outside was pull out by a truck. Comcast came very quickly to repair and reconnect us.

I am honestly shocked at how stable & reliable the service has been.

I also have Amazon Prime, Netflix (CD only, no streaming) and hulu. Don't miss cable at all so far.

I also still have that annoying FIOS box in my apartment still.

I had Verizon ...I have not signed with any internet provider yet... (Yes that big white box is still on the wall and screwed into the electrical outlet).

I cut the cord many years ago. It ain't so bad as long as you don't mind the timeshift. If you have an antenna and a DVR you're in even better shape to watch broadcast HD. We get great reception here.

Comcast has 30mb down, 5 up now for $30/month for 1 year. I don't think that can be beat.

depending on your needs, you might want to ditch comcast and just go with karma wifi hotspot or even just use your phone as a hotspot.

Hate to say it, but if you are already wired for cable, going Comcast/Xfinity internet-only is probably your best bet. Buy your own cable modem to save on the stupid monthly charge.

Did you pull the Fios box off the wall? What happened? Were you blinded by the fiber optic laser beam like some predicted?
