Not referring to casino or racetrack. Plans are to make the golf course much more accessible to a larger volume or people. My guess would be that its private land. I don't have enough info to say "this is that and that is this," since it was all discussed in causal conversation.

I've heard some inside info about the number of developments that are planned, mainly in expanding the area in and around the golf course ? let me tell you, it is astronomical - way beyond what has been published in the papers. Do what you can to prevent the development of the park, because if this isn't stopped, you can kiss peaceful LSP goodbye and say hello Vegas.

Christie and his enablers jeopardize Liberty State Park
When we last left the clash over Liberty State Park and its right to exist without some hideous commercial eyesore vandalizing its 600 pristine acres, it was trending unfavorably for the five million annual visitors who enjoy this hallowed ground in its present form. Gov. Christie, aiming to develop some of that green space, signed the "Meadowlands Agency Consolidation Act," a bill that included a smarmy maneuver that called for the Department of Environmental Protection to hand over development authority to the new Meadowlands Regional Commission, which absorbed two other agencies (the NJSEA and Meadowlands Commission) and then went forth in search of stuff to pave over. That might have been kosher, had there been actual legislative debate or public discussion about it; or if the Park was actually located in the Meadowlands' footprint; or if the bill's sponsor didn't slip it in (on Christie's insistence) just before Christmas, while no one was looking. Then the Assembly Speaker and Senate President promised to better protect the park with a repair bill that said the new commission may only "review" plans for Liberty State Park at the "request" of the DEP. That's no secret, he openly came out for this a while ago-a casino, giant hotel, and racetrack. Apparently the industrial park that abuts LSP is all pretty much tied up to get on board with the project.

As I understand it, the mayor's office IS in talks to put a Casino next to LSP. I assume the community and friends of LSP will go bonkers when this gets out. (And yes I realize this is heresay at this point, though my source was pretty reliable.)

New bill gives DEP commissioner final say on Liberty State Park development plansBy Any plans to commercially develop Liberty State Park would be subject to approval by the New Jersey's chief environmental official under legislation that has won Assembly approval. The Assembly commerce committee approved on Monday provisions aimed at changing a law signed by Gov. Chris Christie last month that put the approval process for commercial development under the newly created Meadowlands Regional Commission. The new measures, introduced by Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Secaucus), call for the environmental protection commissioner to authorize any development plans and require a public hearing to be held in the event of privatization. "Speaker Prieto has consistently said that the DEP should have final say on any plans involving Liberty State Park,'' said Philip Swibinski, a spokesman for Prieto. "He has worked with environmental advocacy groups and other stakeholders to ensure that this always remains the case by sponsoring this legislation and he will continue to support it." President of the Friends of Liberty State Park Sam Pesin praised the development and said the legislation will ensure that public participation happens. I think at this point I want to understand why Prieto, along with the other Democrats in Senate, voted for this bill with that provision? Without the provision, Christie would have vetoed it, of course, but why would that have been so bad? Where the Senators playing to their home-bases who were concerned about the tax issues, but who don't patronize LSP?

Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto should be ashamed of himself for breaking his Liberty State Park promise in his Feb. 5 press release at the time of the governor signing a bill, with last minute LSP language, which obscenely gave the new Meadowlands Regional Commission (MRC) the power "to approve and implement any plan for LSP."
Prieto's and co-sponsor Sen. Sarlo's press release stated, "a new bill will clarify that MRC may only review plans for Liberty State Park" but unconscionably his new bill A4196 still gives MRC power to "approve and implement LSP plans"! In abandoning his press release promise, he cast aside weeks of strong public opposition to the bill's LSP language and decades of the broad public consensus for an open space, non-privatized park behind Lady Liberty. The Speaker stated he is still including the commission's "approve and implement" language because the "DEP requested it." He should just say "no" to the DEP, as he must know that the governor wants to use the commission to ramrod large-scale LSP privatization plans, and that the Department of Environmental Protection already has development plans, after paying NJ Future $120,000 to hire a New York City company to seek proposals and look at "every inch of the park," according to a DEP spokesman. The wolves are gathering at LSP's door with A4196 facilitating the MRC's ramrodding of LSP plans. If Prieto truly cares about protecting LSP from ill-conceived and unpopular plans, he will live up to his "MRC review only" promise and change the bill's language, and Sen. Sarlo will introduce a Senate version that honors their Feb. 5 pledge to lessen the threat to LSP's future. I've said several times that I'd hoped he'd veto it, but it's your Hudson County Dems who own this. If there was no bill there would be no law. I think we're still in the dark of what this whole thing is actually about, except for the Meadowlands money spreading and the hotel tax to offset it. After all, if it's about raising taxes it's got the Democrats behind it.

Of the 100 state Senators and Assemblymen who voted on this, only 1 Republican voted for it, and only 1 Democrat voted against it. And it was proposed by two Democrats. Prieto has said all along that nothing has changed in who will administer LSP. The 'last minute' addition allegedly was added at the behest of Christie's office, but they haven't confirmed that. Let's wait and see what Prieto does to fix his own legislation.

Liberty State Park changes hands Christie signs controversial bill on Meadowlands CommissionFeb 08, 2015 Over the objections of environmentalists and defenders of Liberty State Park, Gov. Christopher Christie signed legislation on Feb. 5 that merges the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority with the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, a move advocates fear will open Liberty State Park to commercial development.

I think one of the readers who commented on nj.com hit the nail on the head - "The DEP commissioner Bob Martin is a business executive or worked on Christies campaign and before that, he was a partner with the Florida firm Accenture. Accenture is a management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. It's strategy is to transform organizations by using technology and outsourcing jobs. In other words, saving money by cutting jobs. They and Bob Martin have no experience in environmental protection or conservation. What they will do is sell off assets and increase revenue by development, and Martins roll is to downsize the DEP to keep within the budget cuts imposed by the governor. Martin is under the thumb of governor Christie and will do whatever he is told." And of course, without this bit of blackmail, the Governor would have vetoed the bill, thus the Democrats voting for it anyway.

So Christie approves bill but prieto and sarlo will write legislation to ease concerns about intrusive developments ?
Why put the language in the bill first place ? This sounds like a "trust me" kind of comment

Democrats to clarify who controls Liberty State Park Posted: Feb 05, 2015 2:23 PM EST Updated: Feb 05, 2015 3:42 PM EST By MICHAEL CATALINI Associated Press TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Democratic lawmakers plan to clarify a bill signed by Gov. Chris Christie that control of Liberty State Park is not transferring to a newly created development commission. Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto and state Sen. Paul Sarlo said in a statement Thursday they will write legislation to ease concerns about possibly intrusive development at the northern New Jersey park.

Liberty State Park supporters on edge as deadline for signing of controversial bill loomsBy What open-space advocates are calling a battle over Liberty State Park's future will come to a head tomorrow, the deadline for Gov. Chris Christie to either sign or veto controversial legislation that could cede control of the state park to a newly formed agency. The Hackensack Meadowlands Agency Consolidation Act, which was adopted by both houses of the state Legislature last year, would merge the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and replace the Meadowlands region tax-sharing plan with a hotel tax, among other things. However, the bill also includes language pertaining to Liberty State Park that park supporters say will take control from the Department of Environmental Protection and hand it over to a new Meadowlands Regional Commission that would have the authority to "evaluate, approve, and implement any plan or plans for Liberty State Park." To sum up, of the 100 State Senators and Assemblymen who voted on this deal, 1 Democrat voted against it and 1 Republican voted for it. Hopefully Christie listens to his party supporters and not the Democrats. And let's not forget he opposed the ballot measure that's also set up to screw LSP by taking away their concession fees they get. The Democrats pushed that ballot initiative.

Called and emailed. Did the same with all the Hudson County pols too. Here's the list to see who voted how, in case you want to view it by party affiliation. (Let me save you the time-not a single Democrat voted against it, and not a single Republican voted for it in the Senate. In the Assembly one Representative of each party crossed party lines). https://legiscan.com/NJ/rollcall/A3969/id/383833

Lets put 2 + 2 together here . Christie flies with his family and friends to Israel and Jordan because he's " friends " with the King of Jordan. Casino magnet Sheldon Adelson gives him the use of his private jet that has a bedroom on board . Not a small jet. For the trip. Is Adelson just another Christie friend , or is there a price tag for the jet ?

Scientists, academics urge Christie to leave Liberty State Park aloneBy JERSEY CITY — Nearly two dozen academics, scientists, and PhD students today wrote an open letter to Gov. Chris Christie urging him to modify a bill that would give some authority over Liberty State Park to a commission that would be focused on the Meadowlands. The letter's signers — who come from Rutgers University, Montclair State University and even one from Harvard University — said that the 1,200-acre park in Jersey City, half of which is marshland, has "become an example of the type of environmental stewardship that is possible in the urban context." "It is not only the crown jewel of the NJ Division of Parks and Forestry but also one of the nation's best examples of the implementation of the Public Trust Doctrine. The principle, codified in the U.S. Constitution, which states that certain natural resources must be protected for public used," the letter read. Report: Language of controversial Liberty State Park bill 'will probably be retooled'
By Julie Kayzerman | The Jersey Journal January 19, 2015 at 4:02 PM The language in the controversial Hackensack Meadowlands Agency Consolidation Act ? the bill that critics believe would lead to the privatization and commercialization of Jersey City's Liberty State Park ? "probably" will be altered, a state spokesman said, according to an article by the Philadelphia Inquirer today. The proposed bill would merge the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. However, a last-minute addition to the bill states that the new commission "shall evaluate, approve and implement any plans for Liberty State Park." This wording has triggered Friends of Liberty State Park (FOLSP) to be fearful that some control of the park will be taken from the state Department of Environmental Protection and will risk full public participation in the park. "Revisions were made, and some wording was added about Liberty State Park falling under the auspices of a new commission," DEP spokesman Larry Hajna told the Inquirer. "The way it was phrased was not the way it was intended, it will probably be retooled." Read more: http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... rk_bill.html#incart_river
