The tree situated between the basketball court and kids splash pad was a widow maker, for sure. I have watched heavy limbs cascade down on windy days....not even during a storm. That one provably needed to come down before it took someone out.
As for other trees being removed, I was kinda surprised and saddened. Not sure whether there was a whole lot of oversite but am hoping that as a community we can come together and replant some new specimens and care for them for the next decade or so.

Happens every time, 'experts' come in and proclaim trees must be chopped down, yet funnily enough the tress have been standing for decades in this condition.
If a tree dies, chop it down, if its alive leave it alone. Who is going to be in the park in a storm to be hit if it falls? Robin.

There is no care plan just removal and that is a crime.
We will never see those 12 trees again in our lifetime I would like to know if they got at least three opinions before they started destroying those trees that have withstood storms etc, plus the scrawny one was planted for 9/11

I think the anti-dog owner grinch stole it this year. Used to be the big fir just SW of the bandstand. Dog owners used to put up dog photos, lights, etc every year. Vigilante still looks out for his neighbors. A lot of dog owners don't give a toss on your security, package thefts, etc these days.... you reap what you sow. But hey, your kids are safe from dog poop ;)

Why does the tree company get to use Hamilton Park as their storage lot? Does HPNA get a discount?
Lovely to have an 18-wheeler, front end loader and crane truck sitting in the middle of the park Christmas week. Hopefully they're not dripping oil and hydraulic fluid.

The HPNA got a tree expert to examine all the trees and identify what ones may be a danger because of age, disease, etc. The ones with the white X are in need of care or removal.

I was wondering the same. It always looks nice in the park, I guess it's not happening this year. If I remember correctly last year it went up pretty late .... it was the week of Christmas.

Anyone know what's going on with the crew cutting down trees in Hamilton Park this week? It looks like there are a lot of trees with white "X" marks painted on them. I hope they are being removed for a good reason - it's a lot of old timber to be cutting down.
